That Night In The Temple That stormy spring night in the temple He spoke of standing at time’s dawn Given the choice of when to live Flying through times and places past Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome Seeing his namesake hammer in hand Lincoln signing the Proclamation And on to when and where he was Choosing to live in his own time To witness mankind face its problems Forced to deal with them at last Standing in the temple that night He spoke of threats against his life Told of the difficult days ahead Said longevity didn’t concern him For he just wanted to do God’s will He had been to the mountaintop Looked over, seen the Promised Land Assured his audience that in the future Although he might not be with them His people would get to the Promised Land He was happy that night, fearing no man His eyes had seen the glory of the coming The next day his own life came to an end How many years in the future did he see When he looked from the mountaintop? When will man reach the Promised Land He foretold of that night in the temple? Copyright © Shadowy Poet/E.D.Q. 2001 Main Page |
