| Matthew Kelly was born June 14th 1975 and is the son of Edward and Marlene Kelly. Matt's grand father is Edward William Kelly, Daniel Jerome's brother. Matt has two siblings, Moriah and Michael Robert. Matt's been playing drums since the age of nine and both Matt's dad and his uncle Mike Kelly are drummers too. He grew up listening to Irish folk, because their parents played it all the time. Matt was best friends with Adam Kelly growing up. He spent about four months in 1995 playing drums with Adam O'Henry. He played with them right before Adam O'Henry's two live recorded albums came out. Matt is a member of a band called Dropkick Murphys. They're pretty famous in USA and specially in the Boston area. Dropkick Murpheys has released 6 albums (if I've got it right) since they formed in Boston, MA in 1996. Their music is a mixture of celtic punk rock. Matt has been in the band since 1997 where he plays the drums, bodhran and sings. In an interview, Matt got the question: if you could have a one to one with anyone, who would it be with? Matt answered: My great, great grandfather Sean O'Kelly. |
