This tutorial is written for PSP7 and assumes you have
a good working knowledge of the PSP tools.

Any resemblence to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.


Supplies Needed

Paint Shop Pro & Animation Shop
The Font I Used - Here - Casanova
My Zip File - Here - This contains the PSP file, my pattern fill and the butterfly tube.
The fairy and butterfly tube was created by the very talented Pat at
Rainbow Row Graphics and is used here with her very kind permission.
Thank you Pat! Please provide a link back to Pat's site when using her tubes.


1. Open the PSP file, it's pretty big but we'll be re-sizing it later.
It consists of 4 layers, a white background and 3 fairy layers.
Fairy 2 and Fairy 3 layers should have the visibility turned off.
Fairy 1 and Bckg have the visibility turned on.

2. Click on your Bckg layer to make it active.
Layers > New Raster Layer and name it text.
Layers > Arrange > Bring To Top.
Set your foreground colour to #A99FFF. Set your background to
pattern and choose the pattern fill that I've supplied.
Add your text using the following settings:
Font - Casanova. Size - 100. Bold, Vector and Antialias - all checked.

3. Play about with the nodes until you have something that you're happy with.
I made all of my letters taller and a little bit wider.
Position the text so that your fairy appears to be sitting on it.
Layers > Convert To Raster Layer.

4. Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel using these settings:
Bevel - Pillow. Width - 10. Smoothness - 100. Depth - 5. Ambience - 0.
Shininess - 10. Colour - White. Angle - 35. Intensity - 50. Elevation - 30.

5. Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow using these settings:
Vertical & Horizontal - 2. Opacity - 80. Blur - 7. Colour - #404040.

6. Apply the same drop shadow to all 3 Fairy layers.
Click on your Text layer to make it active.

7. Click on the butterfly tube and Edit > Copy.
Click back on your main image and Edit > Paste As New Layer.
Re-name this layer Butterfly 1 and position it in the upper left of your canvas.
Apply the same drop shadow as before but change the colour to #808080.

8. Layers > Duplicate and re-name this layer Butterfly 2.
Position it slightly lower and to the right of Butterfly 1.

9. Layers > Duplicate and re-name this layer Butterfly 3.
Position it slightly higher and to the right of Butterfly 2.

10. Layers > Duplicate and re-name this layer Butterfly 4.
Position it so that it rests upon your fairy's hand.

11. Layers > Duplicate and re-name this layer Butterfly 5.
Position it slightly higher and to the right of Butterfly 4.

Nearly done now!!!...Time to put it all together.

12. Turn off the visibility on all your Butterfly layers and Fairy 2 & 3.
Click on your Bckg layer to make it active. Layers > Merge > Merge Visible.
Save As 1psp. Edit > Undo Merge Layers.

13. Click on Butterfly 1 to make it active. Layers > Merge > Merge Visible.
Save As 2psp. Edit > Undo Merge Layers.

14. Turn off the visibility on Butterfly 1 and click on Butterfly 2 to make it active.
Turn off the visibility on Fairy and click on Fairy 2 to make it active.
Layers > Merge > Merge Visible. Save as 3psp. Edit > Undo Merge Layers.

15. Turn off the visibility on Butterfly 2 and click on Butterfly 3 to make it active.
Turn off the visibility on Fairy 2 and click on Fairy 3 to make it active.
Layers > Merge > Merge Visible. Save as 4psp. Edit > Undo Merge Layers.

16. Turn off the visibility on Butterfly 3 and click on Butterfly 4 to make it active.
Layers > Merge > Merge Visible. Save as 5psp. Edit > Undo Merge Layers.

17. Turn off the visibility on Butterfly 4 and click on Butterfly 5 to make it active.
Turn off the visibility on Fairy and click on Fairy 2 to make it active.
Layers > Merge > Merge Visible. Save as 6psp. Edit > Undo Merge Layers.

18. Turn off the visibility on Butterfly 5. You don't want any butterflies on this last one.
Turn off the visibility on Fairy 2 and click on Fairy 1 to make it active.
Layers > Merge > Merge Visible. Save as 7psp. Edit > Undo Merge Layers.

19. Open Animation Shop and run the wizard at default settings.
1st window - Same size as the first image frame - checked.
2nd window - Transparent - checked.
3rd window - Centred in the frame and With the canvas colour - both checked.
4th window - Yes - checked. Frame speed of 30.
5th window - Add your images 1psp to 7psp.
Click on Finish.

20. Click on Frame 1. Animation > Frame properties > 100.
Repeat this step for frames 5 and 7.
Animation > Re-size Animation > 75% Bicubic Resample.
Run your animation and save as a GIF. Finished!...lol.
