This tutorial is written for PSP7 and assumes you have a good
working knowledge of the PSP tools.

Any resemblence to any other tutorial is purely coincidental.

I've been asked loads of times how I make the masks I use in
my tutorials and several people have asked for a tutorial on it.
It's one of those things in PSP that seem difficult but once you've
done one, you'll be hooked and making masks all the time...lol.

Supplies Needed

Paint Shop Pro only. :o)

1. Open a new blank canvas 400 width x 400 height.
Floodfill your canvas with solid colour white.

2. Set your foreground and background to solid colour black.
Click on your Preset Shapes tool.
In your Preset Shapes tool options palette, locate whichever shape you'd like.
Set your preset shape options as follows :

3. Draw your shape on your canvas.
Layers > Convert To Raster Layer.
I always draw my shapes as Vector shapes so I can change them.
Continue with your shapes, adding anything you like...have fun!
Once you've got everything how and where you're wanting,
Layers > Merge > Merge Visible.
This is what I've got so far :

4. Masks > New > From Image.
Set your Masks settings box as follows :

5. Masks > Save To Disk.
Your Save Mask Channel box will pop-up.
Set it as follows and change the name to your choosing,
I've called mine howto.msk. It needs to be followed by .msk.

6. Now to test your mask. :o)
Open a new canvas 400 width x 400 height.
Floodfill this new canvas with solid colour white.
Layers > New Raster Layer.
Floodfill this new layer with a solid dark colour.
I've chosen #FB635E for this demonstration.

7. Masks > Load From Disk.
Locate your new mask and apply it.
Masks > Delete.
Click on Yes to the pop-up box.
And there you have it! Congratulations!
You've just created your very own mask. :o)
