TIGER SHARK

  GALEOCERDO CUVIER

The tiger shark is considered to be one of the most dangerous to man. It will eat just about anything. It is now known though, they migrate each year, to feed on young birds, who are taking their first flight. They ignore all other prey but the birds at this time.

Although it is only 20-30 inches at birth, (born to a liter of 10-80 pups) It can grow to a maximum of 21 feet (two 21 footers were caught in nets. One in 1964, and the other in 1980) Although the average tiger only reaches about 13 feet long.

The tiger shark gets its name from the stripes it has on its back. The stripes start to fade when the shark begins maturing. They are a dark grey, with only a hint of the markings visible when adults.
