Sharks Downed At Wellsford.
The Dargaville Ford Western sharks traveled to Centennial Park Wellsford, where their Beaurepaires premier team suffered their first loss of the season, going down 27-14 to the local side in premier club rugby last Saturday. However the Morfett autos reserve team won 28 – 14 in the early match.
In the premier match the sharks started strongly, putting Wellsford under intense pressure the first fifteen minutes, but when Referee Brendan Hamer was forced to stop the game for 5 minutes, the Sharks lost this intensity.
A good home side took full advantage, seized the initiative in the middle stages of the game and posted four tries and a penalty, with a couple of these trys ‘gifted’ by an out of sorts Sharks team.
Finally, the Sharks ‘restared their engine’ the last quarter, had their pack dominate again, and with the backline finally giving the ball some air, cracked on tries to Tane Takalua and Craig Willaimson, with Hughie Rawiri converting both. Aaron Lambly at lock had a fine game for the sharks, while Tane Takulua at second five eight did well, after he curbed a tendency of trying to crash the wellsford defense single handedly.
The Sharks reserves continued on their unbeaten way, and now top the table in this grade. With Edward Pumipi and David Pirini turning in top performances.
