A moment with Father and Vincent By Sharon Holtz One afternoon, Father sent word to Vincent that he wished a word with him. Vincent arrived at his Father's chamber threshold, and noticed the pensive look upon his face. Softly he asked, “You wanted to see me Father?” “Ah yes Vincent…come in, I was just having some tea, won’t you join me?” “Allow me to pour Father…is there something on your mind?” “Vincent…I have been sitting here, feeling a little reflective…thinking about my life. I haven't told you very much, about my past, about who I was.” “I know that your past has always been difficult for you to speak of.” “Yes, it has. I feel that now I am getting older…well, now that I am OLD…I want to talk about those days gone by. Talk about the events that led to the creation of our world.” “Very well then Father.” “When John and I came below to start this community, I was a bitter man…I am not proud to say, that I had lost all trust in my fellow man, and lost my ability to love. I was shattered when Margaret had left me, and disallusioned when the Legal community prosecuted me for my stating my beliefs…” “You were cleared of those Communistic charges Father.” “Yes…yes I was, however, both of those incidents had left me very angry and bitter. The way was clouded for me.” “You are a good, and a very kind man Father! Somehow...you found your way back again.” “Yes, I did…I found my way, and it was because of the creation of this new world, and being able to help other lost souls, that I was able to trust again…and it was in caring for you Vincent, this tiny abandoned baby, that needed my care, that I was able to love again.” |
