The Longevity Certificate (LC)
A Longevity Certificate (LC) will be awarded to any individual Chinese Shar-Pei dog or bitch who reaches the age of 10 years or more.  This certificate may also be awarded posthumously.  An LC number will be assigned to each dog meeting the qualifications and their pertinent information will be entered in a public database.

Living dogs will be issued a certificate with a number ending with an “-L”.  Upon the death of the dog, the owner can send verification of the date of death to the Longevity Program.  We will then issue a second and final certificate, which will reflect the age at death and end with “-D”.  The final certificate will reflect the true longevity of the dog.  Dogs who are deceased at the time of application will automatically receive numbers ending in “-D”.  Owners are strongly encouraged to enter any and all dogs for which they have verified information, including dogs who may have died years ago, but still meet this program's qualifications.

Do you own or co-own a Chinese Shar-Pei that is over 10 years old?  Or did you have one live at least to 10 years old?  It doesn’t matter whether your Shar-Pei was a “show dog" or a spayed/neutered pet.  The only qualifications are that the dog is (or was) registered and lived to be at least 10 years old.

A copy of the registration certificate is required before processing can be completed, and the registration MUST be with the official breed registry of the applicable country.

If you are submitting an application or updating a prior application for a Shar-Pei that has died, and you would like the cause of death to be noted, please submit a copy of the necropsy report  This information will not be reported on a public database, but will be retained for statistical information.

The Bred for Longevity  Certificate (BFL)
A very important component of the Longevity Program is to recognize those Chinese Shar-Pei and and their breeders,  whose ancestors demonstrate longevity. A Bred for Longevity (BFL) certification is awarded to any individual Shar-Pei of any age whose ancestors are Longevity Certified.
If both the sire and dam are Longevity Certified (LC), the dog or bitch is eligible for BFL-1.  If both parents and  all four grandparents are LC, then the dog or bitch is eligible for BFL-2, etc. In order to get a Bred for Longevity Certification (BFL), there can be no gaps.  What this means, if you had both parents and only 3 grandparents qualified as LC, the dog would still only be eligible for a BFL-1, not a BFL-2. These dogs also are entered into a database and are displayed on this website. A certificate is issued to the owner.
