| SS 2 - EHA1 FC 2 6th Feb 2007 |
| This match was a crucial as it would decide how the last 2 matches had to be played. I.e. if we lost we would be relegated, a draw would make it close to impossible, a win would drop EHA1 FC in the proverbial ****. Due to this being wrote 3 weeks after the event, I am unsure what halves things occurred.
This match showed that our strong run of form continued, we looked solid throughout the team and didn’t look like conceding any goals. To go with our run of defensive form, we managed to open the scoring after a clinical shot from Paul. We doubled our advantage later on after Paul took another well worked goal. We were then cruising to a victory which would have put all the pressure ion EHA1 FC, but alas we conceded 2 goals in the last 2 minutes, the 2nd a clearance which bounced off their defender straight into the attackers path. Overall a thoroughly disappointing game for us, which almost certainly condemned us to relegation. Even their manger said that he didn’t think that they would break us down and can’t understand how we lost. That sums up our season! |
| This match was critical to our season and a must win to take the relegation dog fight to the end of the season. Spanton played in goal this week as Dave was still out with injury.
We started badly in this game and conceded an early goal, after a one on one chance was created by them and slotted in precisely. Although we conceded the goal, we looked fairly tight at the back restricting their chances, although with their 2nd chance came a 2nd goal to put us further behind. After his we pushed forward and created chances of our own, although with some intelligent play, the chances would have been much easier. To round the half off, they had their 3rd chance and again neatly finished. The 2nd half we were strong and resolute at the back only conceding the one chance which they didn’t put away. In this half we were the better team, but a lack of clear cut chances meant that we were never going to score. Overall a good performance by them and a classic case of taking there chances. Next weeks game is now insignificant to the relegation battle, but will only decide if we finish bottom or 2nd bottom. |

| SS 2 - Hangovers FC 1 26th Feb 2007 |
| This week’s match against Hangovers FC was one purely for pride (and not finishing bottom) as both teams had already been relegated. Again Spanton was in goal as Dave’s ear problem had still not healed.
This match started at a frenetic pace with both sides having the ball, we had the best of the first half creating more clear cut opportunities than them. They also created chances and at times it was 3 against 2, but Spanton pulled off some world class saves. It got to half time 0 – 0, which was a mystery to me. In the 2nd half we came out and played the same way, but conceded a hammer blow when they opened the scoring in this match after a clinically taken strike. This forced us to step up the pace and we got our reward when Paul crossed to Coley, who deftly slotted it in the bottom corner. After this they had a goal ruled out after their player shot in our area (it was tight but he was in our area), much to the disgruntlement of some of their players. The match was decided on a clear cut penalty, after their defender cleared the ball in the area. Andy stepped up to give us the vital goal to win us the game. Overall a decent game and one which I think we deserved to win. |

| At the start of this season I said that I didn’t know what the outcome of this season would be, only that we ‘perform well and look more menacing, as we fail to score or create chances in too many games’. This was our problem again this season as although we conceded 1 4 goals in 10 games, which should be enough to ensure we sit mid table, the return of 6 goals shows were our problem lied. All is not lost as we have a platform to build on, I would be far more concerned if we were conceding 30 a season and only scoring 6, with some more clinical and intelligent play, I see no reason why we cant go onto be a success at Eastwood. My last thought for this season is if we had not conceded 2 goals in the last 2 minutes against EHA1 FC, we would have stayed up, but it may be a good thing we have gone down. |
