SS 4 - Fruiy Boys 11 1st Mar 2005 |
This was our 4th straight defeat in a row and was another blow to our confidence. We started the match brightly with me scoring after a quick throw from Andy to take the lead. We then conceded a sloppy goal, which summed up the rest of the night. We again took the lead after Andy scored direct from centre. Then we conceded 4 more goals to go behind, but I pulled one back with a shot at the near post. The 2nd half was complete dominance from the Fuity Boys, coupled with lots of lacklustre defending. I scored a consolation goal at the end to complete my hat-trick, but it was a bit late to try and pull it back (well you never know). The eventual score was 11 – 4. Overall this was another poor performance and damaged our confidence even more. The only aim for this season is not to finish bottom and try and concede less goals. Next week is 5-a-live should we not go to the Southend v Bristol Rovers match. |
SS 2 - Fruity Boys 3 17th May 2005 |
This was a close match that would determine whether the Fruity Boys got promoted or not. The match started well by us, but after a little while we conceded a goal to go 1 – 0 down. In the first half we had lots of chances, but although we were creating them, we couldn’t put them away. At half time we were still behind, but I thought that we were the better team. In the 2nd half we came out all guns blazing and although it was a tight match in the first part, we managed to hold on. In the middle stint of the 2nd half we played well and finally managed to put the masses of chances to good use, with goals from Paul and Tom. At this point we were defending resolutely and looking like a difficult team to beat. The turning point was when one of their players stopped for cramp and the break in the game lasted 5 minutes. After the game restarted we quickly conceded a goal and also conceded another one in the last minute. Overall this was a good match that we deserved to win on chances produced, but showed why we finished 7th with lapses in concentration. |

SS 3 - Fruity Boys 5 2nd August 2005 |
This match was a crucial game and would realistically determine how our season unfolded. The match started tightly with neither team dominating, but it was the Fruity boys that took the lead. They scored after a deflection from the corner, which Dave could do nothing about in goal. They then scored 2 more to go into half time with a 3 goal lead. Although we were 3 goals down, we didn’t deserve to be this far behind from our first half performance. The 2nd half started badly with us conceding a 4th goal, this was where the fight back nearly happened. After the 4th goal went in we played as a team and managed to score 3 nice goals, one from Paul, Tom & me to leave 2 minutes to try and equalise. Alas it was all in vein and they scored a 5th just before the end to kill the game. Overall a very good performance that deserved more than we got. Also thanks to Steve for stepping in at the last minute as Spanton was ill. Nest week we face RBS Utd and hopefully 3 points. |
