This week we played one of my favourites for promotion and I anticipated a tough match. When the Wilkinson team lined up they had 2 or 3 Seafront players playing for them, so our challenge was also increased.
From the outset the match was tight, niggly and did not flow at all. The match started badly for us with Wilkinson’s scoring an early goal to take the lead. We eventually equalised after a decent strike from Graham. Before half time Andy did a nice little flick and put us in the lead for the first time in the match.
The 2nd half was a battling performance from the entire Sharp Shooters team with everyone doing there job. Paul scored 2 goals to put us 4 – 1 up with only 5 minutes to play, but alas with some sloppy defending we conceded a 2nd. The silver lining was that Paul completed his hat trick scoring straight from centre. The 2nd half was a tough performance in which we had some scares, nearly conceding from a back heel and charging down a free kick like American football.
Overall one of the best displays for a long time, which culminated in Dave being selected as player of the week by the ref. In my opinion the player of the week was James C who played well and did everything asked of him. We are now in the promotion spot, lets hope we can stay there (now no laughing). On a serious note 4 points from the opening 2 games is a good achievement. Let’s hope we keep it up. |
