Challenges to Faith Journal
Jesus Model of Faith, Model of Humanity Journal
by Michael Mulligan
Summary:
The key idea of this section is that through reason and observation of teh human person and natural world, we can find evidence for our faith and for the existence of God.
Three Ideas:
1. One of the major Teleological arguments is that of the Watch and Watchmaker. This argument aks you to imagine a person who stumbled upon a watch in teh woods. They would not think for a second taht the device was not made by an intelligent creator. Why not? Because anyone can see its insides were designed to work together to achieve a singular purpose.
P: The existence of design necessarily points to a designer
P: The universe exhibits marvelous design
C: The universe has a designer
2. The argument from Conscience us based on observation of the human person. This argument states that Conscience comes from Knowledge, intuition, and personal experience. The esistence of such a conscience points to the existence of a God because; 1. if God doesn't exist, why would my gut ever contradict what I am doing? 2. Conscience is absolutely binding, what else can be its source except for God
3. Jesus was not the person many people think he is. In almost any context he could be considered a subversive radical. He consistantly seemed to be undercutting every normal expectation of what religion is supposed to be and seems consistantly opposed to the establish church figures.

Reflection on the Nature of Jesus
To me, Jesus is a fully human and fully divine. What that means for me is that while he posesses human flaws and had his doubts (even when human know something for sure, there is always that tiny little bit of doubt)about the future, he has the qualities to overcome those flaws and is the definition of moral and right. Jesus' actions during the Gospels are a reflection of these two natures, his actions are often influenced by human feelings, but are guided by his divine sense of right and wrong. Jesus is also someone who, although a radical in his time, would be considered conservative by today's standards. I see him as being somewhat disturbed at misinterpretation and being extremely aware of what people do in his name.
