I don’t hate the sun. Really, I love it. Especially today, when we’ve been fighting with weather that feels like it should be March in the middle of May, and then, surprise, the sun starts to poke through, and warms the ground faster than I could ever have imagined. It doesn’t seem right that it was drizzly on Wednesday, and by Friday it was boiling. It doesn’t seem fair that I know that the weather report says that it is going to be raining again this next week. I want every day to be like today. It’s warm, okay, maybe hot if you are in direct sunlight, a good 80 or 85. But the redeeming factor to the dry, hot heat, is the wind. The wind that whips itself around my balcony and causes my book pages to rattle. The wind that keeps me cool, and is probably what is keeping me from going back inside the apartment, since I’m pretty sure that I’m about to be sunburnt. I didn’t put on sunscreen. I know, I know, it’s bad, but I didn’t. The fact that when I first came out to my balcony some two and a half hours ago the balcony was in full shade may have something to do with it, but probably it’s just my own laziness in not wanting to miss a minute of the sun’s warming rays to get up and dig the stuff out of my bathroom cupboard. The sun has definitely shifted, and the chair that I dragged out from the living room is now in full light. My arms are nice and toast, and yes, probably getting burnt. But I don’t really care. I want that first sunburn of the season, and I know that there will be more to follow. I burn easy. All the more reason to use sunscreen I guess. Yet, I probably won’t get out of the chair in order to find it. It’s just too beautiful here, and I’m just that lazy!
I did…just did it. I drug my butt out of the comfy chair and into the bathroom for the lather on the arms. I meant to do it just for my face, because that is the one part that I HATE being burned, but I saw my arms, they were getting red, and only on one side. Not good. I went for the full cover. I also took the brief escape from my balcony to find my headphones, so as not to blare out neighbors with music, but dang it I wanted some good Faith Hill, and some “Sunshine and Summertime”. I also found my sunglasses, so my eyes weren’t squinting. It’s now perfect out here. I don’t fear the burn, I have my music, and am keeping a headache a far way away. There is nothing else to do but enjoy the sun. |
