Fiberglass Seat

I made this mold by sitting in a box of wet sand in my wetsuit, then covering the impression with burlap and plaster. This mold was then painted, covered with an acrylic form coat (made for concrete forms, but it sanded really well), repainted, and then waxed.

Notice the generous "pleasure pod" which should, I hope, help enhance boat control.

This seat is still under construction, but here is the positive mold from which I made the negative mold from which to make the seat from.
The negative mold is fiberglass and epoxy resin over fiberglass and polyester resin. I used polyester resin on the first coat so I could use polyester body putty (Bondo) to fair it out for the final mold surface.
The finished seat installed in my Guillemot 18.  I laid a piece of thin canvas in the mold for a finished color/texture so it would look good with the texture of the wooden boat.
