Rudder, daggerboard and oars came next... These small parts took almost as long as the hull to construct. First I tried to shape the daggerboard with my grinder... That kind of worked but it was slow and dusty... a circular sanding wheel attached to my power drill worked a little better but it was still slow. I eventually gave in and bought a small belt sander. With that, I nicely shaped my rudder in about an hour. The picture at the right shows the daggerboard mostly shaped and the rudder still to do... I've since painted both green to match the hull The oars are made of closet poles with plywood blades. The "leathers" are made of bicycle inner tubes with Turk's Head Knots as stoppers... |
