A QUICK REVIEW FOR THOSE OF YOU ABOUT TO TAKE THE PLUNGE INTO THE WORLD OF KOREAN MOBILE PHONES

SO IS IT WORTH IT WORTH THE CASH?

So you've saved up your cash and you want a new phone, but like me you are wary of imported goods, well i took the plunge and ordered me one from the bay, thats why i am posting this to give a bit of a review with my limited knowledge, of the phone, features and quality. (in english as there is little on the interweb) please bare in mind i am no phone expert, just a normal person who wanted a nice phone.hence i wont be going into specs and the like, however phone specs here

So i ordered my A168 and as promised it arrived in 4 working days...in a way to save you more cash wink.(note no user manual,others have had manuals in chinese) so time for a charge, the charger came with a uk adapter, there are then two ways to charge the batts, plug into the phone or plug the batt into the charger.
so time to stick in the sim and hold the red button to boot,after a few flashing pics of space things phone is good to go, so looking good.
so now time to have a play with the touch screen, hit the little green phone pic bottom middle and up comes the phone keypad, worth noting the numbers are well big enough to hit with your thumb,as are many more of the touch screen features, so no stylus needed here.
now to go hunting in the menu, phew where do i start ...
ok the mp3 player...'avarage' best EQ setting is " treble" for me, although the sound quality is fine, my player lacks volume ...but i do like it very loud, problem solved slightly by programs such as freeware mp3gain or mpTrim

The Camera... well i have had mixed results so far, some nice pics, some not so good but i think i need more time messing with the settings, of which there are quite a few, note there is no FLASH just a led flash light , also note the camera has different settings for portrait/landscape, so it knows when you spin the camera around and the display adjusts accordingly (think portrait is for mms wallpaper,caller pics etc)as image size wont go up.
You can set the number of focus points you need and to take a piccy either tap the camera pic on screen, or if you want the auto focus enabled depress the outer shutter half way when the white square turns green and you hear the bleep, depress fully, you can save or not from the preview, oh and remember to hold the camara still and wait, or you will get a blurred pic, SAMPLE PIC1.
note pics can have colour brighness contrast etc changed in 'photo artist' SAMPLE PIC2 'compressed'

The video camara and player..not much to say on this the mpg4/3gp record and play nice, not to blocky and better than my old windows mobile...by a bit
The fm radio...does what it says on the tin, again a tad quiet but ok , for me though the radio record feature is a waste of space, recordings are far to compressed, and cant find any options on this.

The handwriting recognition is fun, if you want to do your sms etc a letter at a time,remember to set it to english, oh and it learns so correct it when it gets it wrong. faster to use the little keyboard though if your eyesight is up to it.

this feature is also in the 'to do list' under 'note' and java notepad if installed

webcam works fine, just plug into your pc and choose webcam from phone

Games...i have installed some extra java games (jar 320-240) out of the dozen or so i have tryed, 4 play full screem 7 play small screen and 1 wouldnt load, to install a game just copy/paste it from your pc to a folder(on your memory card eg 'received') then on your phone find the file with 'file manager' hit option /install..simple.
i have also on my phone some pre-installed games that use the tochscreen, and a yawny dice shake game that you shake the phone.....yawn....why? no tochscreen java games though....is there????well 1 or 2 puzzle games

things to remember,set phone keypad/screen to lock after a short time so it does'nt start ringing people when its in your pocket lol, also turn off human voice its not english and drives you mad.
to unlock the keypad hit the upper right button followed by the red button almost straight away,

tips..to fast activate the camera hold camera button and shake phone.
i have now found many games that work after searching the chinese forums, but not sure if freeware, so mail me, have also found a data suite and com drivers, havnt got it to work fully yet but hey mail me, also file explorer(works full touch screen), text editor and mobyexplorer work, get them from getjar

you may also want to change your wallpaper/screensaver, to an animated pic, many good ones here
this is mine, fits the screen well
you can also save videos to screensaver.

mms,wap, gprs etc settings seem to all be there, however they would have to be set manually, as i am on ORANGE PAYG,i would need a second mortgage to use these services, so cant confirm if they work....yet
(had it confirmed works ok on t-mobile)

(PHONE RESET) if your phone/touch screen decides to crash on you, it seems there are two ways to reset, either from the phone menu where you will have to enter a code, try either 1122, or 0000, or 1234 or 1111, or 9999.
if you cant use the phone try a hard reset from inside the phone, use a suitable object to gently press the tiny reset switch see here.
Be warned the phone will go back to chinese,so you will have to play to get it back to english, step by step guide would be nice....anyone?
I have not had to reset my phone, so cant 100% say these steps will work

to answer a few questions, the phone has 55mb free after the O/S (64mb total i guess)
Not sure on the O/S but think its close to/or is ' SavaJe '
I have a 1 gig micro card in my phone works fine never had any problems.
if you do download a large game/application and you get "NOT ENOUGH MEMORY' it seems you will have to hit the reset button to remedy this, again guide anyone????
