This film cover Ireland's struggle for Independence from 1916 to 1922.  After the disastrous Easter Rebellion against British troops, Michael Collins, transformed the Irish army into guerrilla fighters, which later became the IRA. 
My Left Foot (1990)

Based on the autobiography of Christy Brown, the Dublin-born writer and painter.  Brown suffered cerebral palsy from birth, yet lived to be one of 13 surviving children out of 22 of this poor Catholic family.  Though Brown wrote of his isolation from society, he always found acceptance with his family, who refused to place him in a home.  Won the Academy Award for best actor.

Irish Immigrants came to America by the boatload back during the 19th century.  There was no welfare back then and  new-comers struggled to find work.  This story follows 2 young people who land in Boston in 1893 where they work at low paying jobs.  The young man learns he can earn  a lot more money at boxing.

An adaptation of Frank Mccourt's book which details his early years in the lanes of Limerick and later emmigration to the States.  We see Limerick through a child's eyes.  Though there is poverty, there is also humour, tragedy and triumph.
