Mother
By: SheridanCraneFitzgerald@hotmail.com

It's not fair I never knew you --
I don't know who you are.
Your name has no real meaning;
My heart is burned with scars:
The scars you left behind.
The truth I never knew.
Could "mother" really define
The person that is you?
Then where are all the moments
That have never been?
You never soothed my tears;
Taught me what to believe in.
You didn't meet my first boyfriend,
Or watch me go on my first dance.
You didn't compliment my grades --
You never gave me a chance!
You were never there for me,
Yet still you call me "daughter" --
And, despite its lack of meaning,
I must call you Mother.
