Wistful

A smile I had often dreamed
In the darkest, lonely nights
Curves the lips of a gentle face:
What a heavenly sight.
A hug I prayed would come to me
Brings comfort unexpected;
Enfolded in these loving arms,
I find joy I hadn't suspected.
A kiss I had wished to feel
Scatters butterflies inside.
I experience a warmth that on the coldest days
I had only dreamed would reside.
A love that I dared hope would come
Is spoken unto me.
I awake both sad and joyful --
What a lovely dream.
