First Generation

1.  James S.1 Clark was born in AL December 28, 1819.  It is estimated that James died abt. 1900 in Graves Co. KY.

He married Mary Jane Shelton in (probably Florence) Lauderdale Co. AL, December 7, 1841.  Mary was born in Alabama, October 23, 1823. She was the daughter of William Shelton and Sarah_______.  Mary died somewhere around 1895-9 in Mayfield Graves Co. KY.

James was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Lauderdale Co. AL, District 1, 25 Oct 1850, pg. 234, Fam51/Hos52

3        ii. Sarena Ellen Clark was born in AL February 14, 1844.  She married ______ Selling.  Information is from Laura (Selling) Reid, 1940

4       iii. N. Elizabeth Clark was born in AL October 3, 1845.  She married Lemuel Selling. Information: from a letter by Laura (Selling) Reid1940, and Military records of Bradford Green who married Amanda Clark.

5       iv. Amanda A. Clark was born in Lauderdale Co. AL December 9, 1846.  Amanda died November 3, 1889 in Ragsdale Graves Co. KY, at 42 years of age.  She married twice.  She married Perry Butler.  She married Bradford Green in Mayfield Graves Co. KY, December 20, 1866.  Information from military records of husband, Bradford Green

+          6        v. Joseph E. Clark was born February 14, 1849.

7       vi. Jonathan Richard Clark was born in Lauderdale Co. AL August 18, 1850.  Jonathan died in Steward Co. KY.

8      vii. S. Alonzo Clark was born in Lauderdale Co. AL October 14, 1853.  Alonzo died in Louisville Jefferson Co. KY.  According to the military records of Bradford Green, Alonzo may have been an attorney

+           9     viii. Robert S. Leon Clark was born in Lauderdale Co. AL November 14, 1855.

10        ix. Masine U. Clark was born in Graves Co. KY March 10, 1857.  Masine died 1934 in Graves Co. KY, at 77 years of age.  He married Georgia ________.  Information is from Thad S. Clark, 1941 letterto Ora Seaton Chappel.

11         x. Thad S. Clark was born in Mayfield   Graves Co. KY January 23, 1859.  Thad died 1948 in Mayfield Graves Co. KY, at 89 years of age.  His body was interred 1948 in Mayfield Graves Co. KY, Spring Creek Church of Christ Cemetery.  He married Lee ______ in Graves Co. KY.

12        xi. Marion M. Clark was born in Graves Co. KY May 19, 1864.

Second Generation

6.  Joseph E.2 Clark (James S.1) was born in Lauderdale Co. AL February 14, 1849.  Joseph died November 1898 in Elgin Jackson Co. AR, at 49 years of age.  His body was interred November 1898, in Lynn Lawrence Co. AR, Lebanon Cemetery; there is no headstone.

He married three times.  He married Lucy Maria Green in KY, (1870).  He married Eugenia Irena Green in Graves Co. KY, 1877.  Eugenia was born in Graves Co. KY April 13, 1858.  Eugenia was the daughter of  Lewis C. Green and Irena I. Cartwright.  Eugenia died 1891 in Lynn Lawrence Co. AR, at 33 years of age.  He married Mrs. Amanda Arnold in Lawrence Co. AR, February 4, 1892.

Joseph was a doctor in Randolph, Lawrence and Jackson Co. AR, 1870-1898.  It is noted that Dr. Joseph Clark did not answer inquiry regarding graduation for the Polk's Medical directory of 1898.

"Mrs. Penn used to use Grandpa Clark as her doctor. She had told us that the step-mother was the first woman up there with a taffeta dress. Grandpa built a two-story log house and we saw where it stood. Moved from Lynn to Elgin. Died near his house, but carried to Lynn to be buried. Grandpa left Kentucky when he married our Grandmother Eugenia."

Mrs. Brann and Mrs. Chappel visit Grandfather's Church

How inspiring and how worshipful, especially this season of the year to attend a worship service in a rural community.  Such was the experience Sunday of Mrs. Ben Brann and her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Chappel of Memphis. The service was at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church near Lynn in Lawrence County, which their mother's the late Mrs. Earl Seaton, father, Dr. Joe Clark was instrumental in establishing in 1871.

The original building is still in use having been kept in repair and incased in native stone on the exterior.

At the time the church was established Dr. Clark was the only physician in the community. He and the ladies' mother and father are buried in the cemetery adjoining.

They visited with a former school mate of their mother, Mrs. Lacy Brannon, who told them many things of interest and with Mrs Matt Penn, another long time friend.

The church will observe Homecoming the fourth Sunday in June 1971.

The group also visited a relative, Mrs. Dee Seaton, who is a resident at Pine Dale Nursing Home at Newport.

14        ii. Olla (Ollie) Clark was born in Graves Co. KY September 1874. Birth date from 1900 Census, Jackson, AR Her body was interred in Swifton Jackson Co. AR.  She married Hosea Nunley in Elgin Jackson Co. AR.  Marriage information from Ora (Seaton) Chappel, granddaughter of Joseph Clark.

15       iii. Sidney Clark was born 1876.  Sidney died (1878) in Lynn Lawrence Co. AR, at 2 years of age.  His body was interred in Lynn Lawrence Co. AR, Lebanon Cemetery.

17        v. Nora Lee Clark was born in Portia   Lawrence Co. AR January 21, 1884.  Nora died March 7, 1947 in Little Rock AR, at 63 years of age.  Her body was interred March 1947 in Swifton Jackson Co. AR.  She married Earl Seaton in Elgin Jackson Co. AR, December 31, 1900.  Information from Earl Seaton Jr. in correspondence to me.

Nora was married at Elgin, Ark. Us children were partly raised there. Then we moved to Tuckerman, AK. Lived there most of our young lives. Uncle John Clark lived with Nora when they were first married. India visited at Elgin, bringing Vina with her.  Nora's first cousin, Myrtle Leduke, lived at Memphis TN. Leduke's father and our grandmother (Eugenia Green Clark) were brother and sister. He was a doctor too.  Leduke was raised at Hickory KY.  Many Clarks and Greens were buried at the cemetery there.

Nora was a real sweet and kind person, as was Uncle John Clark. Aunt Ollie was "jolly and a sweet woman."  Eugenia (grandmother) was buried at Lynn, AR.  She was called Grandma Genie.

18       vi. John Harold Clark was born in Strawberry, Lawrence Co. AR April 19, 1889.  John died December 24, 1963 in Chouteau OK, at 74 years of age.  His body was interred December 1963 in Haskell OK, Garland Cemetery.  He married Dona Iva.

9. Robert Leon Clark (James S.) was born November 14, 1855 in Florence, Lauderdale, AL, and died about 1913 in Ripley Co. MO. He married twice:  He married Susan Emaline Rea, October 2, 1879 in Ripley Co. MO, daughter of Washington Rea and Eliz McMann. She was born in 1863, Pennsylvania and died about 1900 in Ripley Co. MO. He married Mary ______abt. 1906, Ripley Co. Mo. [Information supplied by Loretta Mann, September, 2000.] More information is available about this family.

16.  India Annetta3 Clark (Joseph E.2, James S.1) was born in Current River, Randolph Co. AR July 2, 1879.  India died September 20, 1931 in Tamaha Haskell Co. OK, at 52 years of age.  Her body was interred September 21, 1931 in Tamaha Haskell Co. OK, Tamaha Cemetery, no head stone.

She married John T. Bradshaw in Elgin Jackson Co. AR, July 18, 1896.  John was born in Arkansas, April 6, 1875.  John was the son of ______ Bradshaw and (______ Cash {?}).  He married Mrs. Lizzie Smith in Stigler Haskell OK, September 14, 1932.  John died May 23, 1953 in Muskogee Muskogee Co. OK, at 78 years of age.  His body was interred May 26, 1953 in Muskogee Muskogee Co. OK, Greenhille Cemetery.  John was listed as the head of a family on the 1910 Census in Tamaha Haskell Co. 22       iv. Roy Burt Bradshaw was born in Chalybeat Springs  Stone Co AR March 28, 1904.  Roy died October 11, 1976 in Merced, Merced Co. CA, at 72 years of age.  He married twice.  He married Vergie Lovett.  He married Margie Palmer in Kanima Haskell Co. OK, January 28, 1924.

23        v. Vina Elizabeth Bradshaw was born in Cleburn Co. AR June 12, 1907.  Vina died 1982 at 75 years of age.  She married twice.  She married Everett DeArmon in Stigler Haskell OK, December 23, 1923. She married Rev W.E. Kern, California

24       vi. Thomas Bradshaw was born in Tamaha  Haskell Co. OK May 11, 1910.  Thomas died 1914 in Tamaha Haskell Co. OK, at 4 years of age.

25      vii. Agatha Catherine Bradshaw was born in Tamaha, Haskell Co. OK September 9, 1914.  She married Odes Bell in Keota Haskell Co. OK, February 2, 1931.

26     viii. Manuel Bradshaw was born in Tamaha  Haskell Co. OK August 8, 1921.  Manuel died August 8, 1921 in Tamaha Haskell Co. OK, at less than one year of age.

Fourth Generation

20.  Minnie Earl4 Bradshaw (India3 ,Clark, Joseph E.2, James S.1) was born in Chalybeat Springs  Stone Co AR June 13, 1901.  Minnie died January 3, 1979 in Muskogee Muskogee Co. OK, at 77 years of age.

She married Joseph William (Joe) Reece in Stigler Haskell OK, December 31, 1919.  Joseph was born in Dardanelle Bottoms Yell Co. AR August 9, 1899.  Joseph was the son of William Nathan Reece and Mary Callie Ferren.  Joseph died March 28, 1979 in Muskogee Muskogee Co. OK, at 79 years of age.  His body was interred 1979 in Muskogee Muskogee Co. OK, Greenhill Cemetery.  Joseph's occupation: carpenter, painter. They had six children.
