Shichi-Go-San Matsuri
(7-5-3 Festival for Kids in Japan)
Shichi-Go-San is an important festival for kids in Japan.  Do you know where Japan is located???
If you said in Asia, then you are correct!
Travel with me through the pictures that I took of Shichi-Go- San when I was in Tokyo in November of 2000.
Shichi-Go-San is a matsuri or festival that is celebrated in Japan on November 15th.  It is a celebration for 3 and 5 year old boys and 3 and 7 year old girls.  I saw this family celebrating Shichi-Go-San at Meiji Jingu Shrine in Tokyo.  This family like others, visit  the shrine and pray for a healthy and happy future free of sickness and misfortune.

Teachers are you interested in traveling to Japan and learning more about the people, culture, and educational system  of Japan?
Site Publication Information:
This page was constructed by a Vermont Social Studies Teacher in an effort to share her experiences and to teach about the people and culture of Japan.  Let's work together to learn about the world and teach our children what a wonderful place it is!  Diversity, cultural respect, and understanding is important.  We ALL have a responsibility to teach our kids about that.
