CROP AND DOCK? |
According to the AKC standard, dobermans are to have cropped ears and docked tails at the secound vertabrae. But in England, cropping is illegal and docking is inhuman. So to show a doberman in both England and the United States, you must first take it to England with drop ears, and then get them cropped in the US at an older age than recommended. It is not proven that either procedure causes unbelievable pain, and is still done early by breeders. Some vetenarians however refuse to do either. *DOCKING: usually done at a day or two old a vet cuts the pups tail while it is held by the owner. No aneseptic is givin, however it is believed that because it is done at such an early age they cannot feel it and do not know what is happening. *CROPPING: usually done between 8 and 10 weeks of age, a vet cuts the outside of the ear off in a certain style, and tapes the ears up with a strong support underneath. (Usually a popsicle stick) Sometimes this proceedure is done in four seperate steps. Always done with aneseptic, the vet gives pain pills if needed, and the ears are usually left taped until 7 months of age. I SUPPORT CROPPING AND DOCKING! It is the standard look of the doberman and many other breeds (IE: rottweiler, Corgi, boxer, great dane, manchester terrier) It is no different than dewclaw removing or spaying and neutering, and I have yet to hear of anyone protesting those. I would love to hear your site of the story however! I will have this done to any of my AKC registered breeds required unless someone can prove it is extremelly painful. And as a veterinarian, I will give a local to pups before docking tails. Please email your opinion to silverbeagle@hotmail.com JUST DO NOT YELL AT ME BECAUSE OF THE SIDE I CHOSE! We will soon have banners for both sides. One will state SAVE OUR BREEDS! I PROMOTE CROPPING AND DOCKING! And the other will say CROPPING AND DOCKING IS COSMETIC! DO NOT REQUIRE IT IN THE AKC STANDARDS! REPLY: WHAT IS YOUR VEIW ON CROPPING AND DOCKING: "It should be banished..... It is a mutation of breed standards..." I personally like my rottwieler's docked tail but do not like the cropped ear look, especially on breeds like the Doberman. It makes them look so mean when really they are sweethearts."
