No matter where some people see a doberman, whether its lounging at its owners heels in the backyard, playing at a dog park, or walking down the street, there will always be those people who immediatly pull away from their direction. Those people who teach their children to hate and fear these beautiful canines. Those people who stick to their "labs". Dobermans, though losing somewhat of a reputation for aggression, still are dogs who send a searing fear through those who do not know the breed itself. Dobermans tend to be cocky, playful, loyal dogs who would do anything for their owners if it just ment that they would get a treat or a belly rub. But many people still say negative things about these wonderful creatures. I am a victom of a family this way...my parents' fear of dobermans are what drives them to prevent me from getting one. Dobermans were at one time highly aggressive. They were the first breed specifically bred to do guard work, a mix of german shephards, great danes, rottwielers, manchester terriers, and many others. They were bred to prevent muggers and theives from attacking their tax collecting creater, Ludwig Dobermann, so for this purpose they were better meaner. Cropping the ears of this dog, and many others, made it look much more feirce. This may add to the fear. However, as the doberman grew in popularity, people didn't want a meaner dog. Though breeders worked hard to diminish this trait, irresponsible training led to doberman attacks on humans.
