Medical Missions Nicaragua 1999
In the summer of 1999, I went on my first medical missions trip with Mercy Ships. My mom, a pediatric nurse practioner, accompanied me on this trip. We went down with a team of nurses, nurse practitioners and a doctor. We saw over 1000 patients in two weeks. We were faced with many people seeking health care, but we longed to give them so much more. We prayed with each patient and saw God use medicine to draw His children to Him. We visited villages out on dirt roads, we visited a prison, we walked through a land devastated by Hurrican Mitch a few months before. Through it all, God's grace and glory were evident more than ever before. Here are some of the pictures from this medical missions trip. |

This young lady has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Her hands and feet began to disfigure from the disease and she was in great pain. We circled around her and prayed for her as tears rolled down her cheeks.
This little boy's tooth had infected his entire face on the left side. After giving him antibiotics for one day, our doctor pulled his tooth. This was the last time that he would taste pain.

We brought our "pharmacy" with us where ever we went in four suitcases all separated into types of medications and doses.
We set up clinic wherever there was space. Under the trees, in a home, in a school, in a prison! |
