Old news and rants

Year : 2002
10/11/02 - I've kinda been neglecting this site lately. I haven't made any significant updates or anything for awhile. Having recently aquired Photoshop however, I thought it'd be fun to come back, and try to do something with my site, as the original (PaintShopPro) made one wasn't too good, though I gave it my best. The banner up there was from a Valentine's day drawing by the talented Aoi Nanase, by the way.

I stumbled across this awesome modification for Doom called jDoom, which uses the Doomsday engine. It gives Doom a swift kick in the graphics department among plenty of other things. You have the ability to look up and down, jump, and it uses Quake 1's MD2 model to change all the 2D sprites in the game to 3D models. It supports both Direct3D and OpenGL, and you can play over TCP/IP. Truly worth a look if you loved Doom at all. Me and my friends are loving Co-op.

I've been playing Baldur's Gate again recently too, as I was never able to finish it. The ability to customize the characters has always been an interesting feature. I went so far as to replace my party's portraits with characters from the anime .hack//Sign. Kinda makes an anime nut like myself feel more at home. ;)

Counter-Strike finally got old. The game is still fun from time to time, but I'm kinda tired of the people you meet while playing online. All I hear are people calling each other "noobs", "gay", and "fuking haxers". Now this doesn't bother me much...I mean, I HAVE been playing online for years already, but it was one reason why I hated Counter-Strike in the first place, and it's gotten old. Most gaming I do nowadays is done either alone, or with a small circle of people. For instance, I've never played the UT2003 demo outside of a certain private server.

Moving on...I've been watching alot of anime lately too. Recently, I've finished watching .hack//sign, Excel Saga, and Berserk, and am in the process of watching RahXephon, Tokyo Mew Mew (Love that ending song), and Chobits, among a few others.

Berserk was pretty interesting, and the manga that continues the series is definately not for the faint of heart. It has one of the most memorable story lines I've ever came across. Excel Saga was just too funny. It pokes fun at anything and everything. If you haven't been into anime too long, you might be left kinda clueless at some jokes though. Aaaand Hack Sign. I liked it, but it had more drama than action. Something I didn't expect. Some people even consider it boring.

Ah yeah, and there's the BBS I signed up for at ezboard.com. I thought it was pretty cool for awhile, but after the 30 day ad-free period expired...I didn't expect the ads to be that bad. Pop-ups AND huge banners at the top and bottom of the page? Give me a break. Maybe I should delete my account. Ah well, what did I expect for free? That's enough rantage. Until next time.

1/13/02 - I finally got to changing the layout of the page. At first I wasn't really sure what I was going to do, and I thought the old one looked too plain, so I messed around with PSP, and after two sleepless nights here we are. I think it could be better...maybe if I had Photoshop I could do a little more. While adding graphics here and there, I decided to name my page, since Shinji[tEs]'s homepage seemed a little boring. I decided on NAVI Online. NAVIs are what they call PCs in this one anime, Serial Experiments Lain, and I kinda picked it up as a nickname for my PC. Anyway, that's Akari from 'To Heart' up there. She's current 'mascot' for my page. In addition to the new layout, I've rewritten my two old game reviews for Shogo and the Opposing Force expansion pack for Half-Life. I've also written three new ones, for Sacrifice, Dead or Alive 2, and Soul Calibur. Since I'm starting to pick up on reviewing games, I also decided to make a universal review page...since I used to choose a color scheme for each game, and that was sort of a pain.

In other news, I'm back up to 700mhz, and I got the Dreamcast. I have to say I have more of a liking for this console, than when I first got my Playstation. In addition to Grandia II, I have four fighting games. The controller does it's job well for 3D fighters, like DoA2 and SoulCalibur, but jeezus...you have to do a little getting used to for 2D fighters like Capcom vs SNK 2. I use the D-Pad myself, since the analog stick feels weird when playing 2D fighters. Oh yeah, and Guilty Gear X rocks. I love the music, and the graphics are awesome. It's a pity they didn't give it a US Dreamcast release. Much to my dismay, I haven't aquired any date sims, though I plan on purchasing Sentimental Graffiti 2 online. I'm a little worried about getting the 'right' boot disk though. I've heard DC-X doesn't boot it up for some people. If anyone has any info on this, please do me a favor and e-mail me.

Heh, don't I seem a little behind the times? Yeap...while everyone's oogling over their X-Box/GameCube/PS2, I'm still here enjoying my Dreamcast. Ah, yes...and while at Vegas this weekend, I found myself spending hours with my cousin at the DDR machine. I never thought I'd be hooked on this game. I tell ya, once you finish your first song on maniac, it's a different game.

Oh oh oh!...And Tokimeki Check-In! is quite an intersting game...for those of you who know what it is. ;) Voice acting, and well drawn characters, that's a leap in technology for me (when it comes to those kind of games)...hehe. Also, recently I finished Return to Castle Wolfenstein's single player campaign...it was really fscking short...and the boss was no challenge. I'd like to try out multi, but my internet connection has recently become screwy, and my computer still likes to crash every now and then. All that, along with games of Quake III every now and then, and sessions of Diablo II...and I'm experiencing gaming bliss.

I can't say the same about anime though...I haven't seen much in awhile. The reruns of Outlaw Star on Cartoon Network get me through those cold lonely nights (cough)...and I actually watched a few episodes of Love Hina again yesterday. While they might not be at the tops of everyones lists, they make me glad I watch anime. Anyway, that's all, until next month...or what not.

Year : 2001
12/15/01 - It certainly has been awhile hasn't it? Well...I've added alot of J-rock songs in the guitar page, updated my profile, added more links, removed the "Thanks" section, since only one or two of those 'thank you's were relevant to the page as it is now...and a new section. A Haruhara Haruko shrine...yep, that's right, I made an online shrine to an anime character...something I thought I'd never do.

So what's new...? Game-wise...I'll be getting a Dreamcast this Christmas. Yeah, I know the console is pretty much dead here in the U.S. but if I can get my hands on some of those dating sims (games that let you go after anime chicks...yeah yeah, I know, "loser!" "get a real girl!"), and a few fighting games then I'll be happy. Unfortunately, I've been downgraded from a 450mhz PIII, to a 300mhz PII, and with all the games for PC coming out this holiday... :[ A relative gave me a 700mhz Athalon with a motherboard...but once that was installed, everything went to shit basically. I guess I'll have to ask for the 450 back if I want to get back to PC Gaming...Cause heh, this thing wouldn't run Ghost Recon for sure...

Let's see...anime-wise...I started up watching Martian Successor Nadesico again. I got the money to buy a few DVDs, and the 4th DVD for Nadesico was one of them...The first for Cowboy Bebop was the second, and the Ah! My Goddess movie was the third...Mostly for the free mini-pencil board...heh. I haven't watched it yet though...I'm saving it for Christmas night, which I'll be spending alone...with a bottle of sake...sniff sniff. Such is life I guess.

Recently...I've been listening to alot of Siam Shade...One of the first J-rock bands I ever heard, but never really admired until I took a good hard listen to their guitar work...and what guitar work...They'd easily beat any band you see on MTV, and alot of other bands for that matter. Like alot of J-rock bands, their songs just have that dreamy quality to them that makes it worthwhile to listen to I guess. So yea, as far as guitaring goes, I idolize Siam Shade...

Oh, and if you see junk characters near the dates of the updates/rants... they're just the day in Japanese, nothing important really.

And I'm off...Again. Goodbye...

04/19/01 - Cleaned up a bit, and added a little article I did about Half-Life : Opposing Force. I've also cleaned out the clan section, something I do a little too often. Oh, and I guess this little news section will turn into my own personal rant space. I don't think anyone reads this anyway, so I don't think anyone will mind...

So lately, I've been trying to upgrade to my old Voodoo 2 card to a GeForce2, so I could try out some of the newer games. Tribes 2, Serious Sam, and Undying have my attention, but unfourtunately my system can't handle them. Lately I've been playing Counterstrike, Firearms, and a little TFC. In the past I've usually made it clear that Half-Life bugged the hell outta me. Probably because everyone called it the best game ever made and crap like that. I admit the Single player mode was just awesome, but DM was just crap for me and nowhere near as good as Quake II (which was still popular back then). Also I got pings of 400 to just about any server I joined up until now. Well now that TFC, Firearms and Counterstrike are out, I'm just about to admit that Half-Life is a damn good game (But it took long enough!).

Other than that, I've been playing Tribes, which I picked up for 12.99 last saturday, and Homeworld. Yeah, I know...All old games for me until I can upgrade. Anyway, Spring Break is here, and it's mostly been play this and that...Spend time with my gal...Sleep...But I guess I gotta say life is good. Till next time!

Year : 2000
12/12/00 - I changed the index.html and added more screen shots to the screenshot page.
8/29/00 - No more Quake 2 section...It just got old... I did however add a guitar tableture section that has a few anime songs I tabbed myself up. I'll put more anime and J-rock songs there later. I also put up some fanfic me and a few buddies did over IRC for Evangelion.
I aborted the Diablo II section and I don't think I'll be making that anime section any more either. Instead you can find all the anime stuff I would have put up in the anime page to the right.
7/29/00 - I added a Screen Shot section to the page. I put some screenshots, (weird, cool, whatever ones...) I had around my hard drive up on there. You should find it interesting. Anyway, I'm still thinking of what to put on the Anime section. A Diablo 2 section might go up before the anime one, since I'm quite adicted to the game. ^_^
6/30/00 - Added the 'Quake3 vs UnrealTournament' page that I've been workin on for the past week or so. Also some links to the links page.
6/21/00 - Phew...What a day...I re-arranged the front page, to make it more neat, and made a bunch of other changes. I guess I'm officially known as Shinji now, no more BobaFettQ2. I'm going to add an Anime section to the page soon too. The front girl(s) this time around are Sakura, and her friend Tomoyo, from Card Captor Sakura. I hope the picture doesn't offend anyone. :)

Also I changed the layout of the SCM page. I got rid of the ones that were on there and put up 5 new ones. I might add more later today.

5/24/00 - Back at last. I'm not sure what I can do for the Quake2 page since, Quake3 is out. But I'll still update stuff on the Shogo page, since there's alot going on in the community still, even if the game is, dare I say, dead. I'll put up some StarCraft maps I made while I was away soon. I didn't notice, but I'm about to hit the 3000 hit mark. ^_^

Year : 1999

5/5/99 - After the little incident in Colorado, the media has been pointing the finger at games, music, and the internet. Now I'm not going to go on about that, but here's an article I think you should read. It's at C-Net's Download.com: Are games to blame?

I added two more maps in the Shogo area, OF_CHEM, and OF_575, and listed all of the MADs and MODs I know of.

2/4/99 - I added a maps page for Quake2. There you can get some of the best maps. All of them got the best ratings, so you can be sure they're worth your time.

9/15/98 - I'll be adding a Magic: the gathering page soon.
7/19/98 - I added a few SCMs to the page. Also I added some other stuff. Check it out. I also joined a web ring, in hopes of getting more members. I got my account back who-hoo!!
7/4/98 - Ok, my Guest book is fixed. And that's about it. I'll get work on the [tEs] page and upload more Quake2 skins.
7/3/98 - Everythings almost finished. I just need to make sure everything is in working order. If you find something wrong then e-mail me. I can't get my Guestbook to work yet, and the clan page isn't open (there's links there, but it's just a dead end). The pages that are currently open are:

Quake2, Quake2 Screen shots, Quake2 skins, Star Craft, Star Craft cheats, SCM archive, and the credits. Hopefully I'll be done by wednesday.
