Happy Mother's Day 2001!!!
Wow! You wear a lot of hats! Ha! Ha!
Holly sure had a great idea when she asked
us to write down some of our favorite
memories and funny stories about you.
It's been 23 years since I've met you and
it's seems like just yesterday that I
first went to your home.
Being with you is an adventure, you never
know where we'll be going or what we will
be doing, but it's always fun.
Not only were you my mother-in-law
you were my best friend.
We sure had some good times! You the daring,
fun one, me the shy, chicken one.
I remember you taking me out to catch
bumblebees in a jar.
I wanted them dead first, but oh no,
you said we catch them alive!
I'm still scared of them. Ha! Ha!
Then, we used to suntan up on the roof.
Me scared of heights, you coaxing me
up the ladder, drink in hand,
and backdown again.
Then we would bake in the sun and I
always burned - never did get a nice suntan.
But what fun it was.
You always made everything fun.
I can still see you in your bikini,
tainning in the first spring sun,
lying beside the snow banks.
Who could forget all our shopping?
The blue flashing light specials at K-mart
and digging through the sales bunks.
Then through the drive through at
MacDonalds for a hamburger. I liked
mine plain and you'd forget and
order both with ketchup.
I ate it anyway, and I still lived. Ha! Ha!
Then we went on a shrimp sandwich kick,
yours with mayonnaise, mine without.
Remember how fussy I was and all those
peanut butter sandwhiches I ate?
I think it drove you crazy sometimes. Ha! Ha!
Look at me now! I'm not so fussy,
I should have stuck to peanut butter.
Now I'm not so fussy and not so skynny! Ha! Ha!
Then there was the time that you were baking pumpkin pies
and your mother called. You just had a new carpet put down
and you asked me to take the pies out of the oven and
I dropped it, face down. I froze on the spot, I kept thinking
I burned a hole in the carpet, and you were gesturing to me
to pick it up and trying to get your mom off of the phone
and I just stood there like an idiot, thinking
"She's gonna kill me!" It's pretty funny now!
I used to paint and shape your nails, trying to get them to
grow and then you'd be back digging in the garden etc...
Anyways, there is tons more but my space must be filled up.
I have never known anyone with such boundless energy and
such a big, warm heart and so much fun to be with.
You always put your family first and that makes
for a pretty good Mom.
Thank-you for all you've done for me, for all the
years of friendship and love, for sharing your zest
for life and for all the adventures.
May God bless you today and everyday with much
happiness and love. You deserve it.
Even though we don't see each other often,
you will always be "Madam D." my mother-in-law,
and I love you.
Kathy
XOXO
