Those past gigs...pg 3 |

*12th Jan '04, The Flapper with White Dwarf and Yellobelly - A Requests Show: the Family didn't have a set list for the gig, they just played what people shouted out for. Along with the obligatory 'Tom Grant has STDs' joke the cover of 'Born in the USA' made a comeback, they played a new minute long rock ballad and Karl got up on stage to sing 'Vestibule' with Bryn. Thanks to Kier Yellobelly for the shiny blue telecaster. |

*30th Dec '03, The Jug of Ale with Fear of String and Edmund - Andrew was back for the holidays which meant SEF had a few weeks when they could play gigs. This was the first and though it couldn't quite match up to the last Jug show it was still a very pleasurable experience. They had a new song, the SEF trucker hat and people dancing in the audience (not just friends either, random people too). Bryn walked off the stage while they started playing 'Magic Changes' then suddenly rushed back on shirtless, in a bowler hat, with 'lesbian dinner' written on his chest in lipstick. ? . People began to dance wildly during the last song as if in the throes of a guitar-induced seizure and Karl topped it all off nicely by diving from the speaker-stacks at the side of the stage into the arms of the three or so people in the crowd who were willing to catch him. Jawsome. |

*17th Sept '03, The Jug of Ale with Palomar 13 and Roscrea - This is getting written months later but it still stands out as the best SEF gig to date. It was Andrew's last gig before going off to university and SEF had an appetite for destruction that night. The playing was loose at times but that didn't metter 'cos they steamrollered their way through the set. It all ended in a blaze of glory when Bryn started getting anyone who could fit up onto the stage to sing along to 'Vestibule' and chant "ANDY, WE ALL HOPE YOU HAVE A NICE TIME AT UNIVERSITY".. When the drums kicked back in everyone lept into the audience and started going kind of crazy and SEF blasted out the one chord metal-sludge of 'Some Were Devils' - it was like a rock apocalypse in there i tell you. Bryn stage-dived twice and as the others fell to the floor or slunk off stage Andrew played a slick drum solo. I had to wear a brace on my front teeth for a month because of this gig. |

*16th July '03, The Jug of Ale with Misty's Big Adventure - Things started off really badly: before the bands could even soundcheck the power upstairs blew. It looked like the gig might not go ahead but luckily enough power was tapped from the flat on the top floor to fire up the instruments and one small desk lamp. 'Cause it was a Wednesday and Misty's were playing the place was packed and REALLY hot, but SEF played their best gig yet that night. More good new songs, banter from Bryn and the sweetest ending when Bryn not only managed to get everyone in the Jug to sing along to Vestibule but also managed to get everyone to crouch down and then jump at the same time. Bryn jumped into the audience and people screamed along into the mic. High adventure! pics |

*3rd July '03, The Flapper with Yellobelly and Distophia - A good gig though not as rocking as the last few. More new songs were played, including a version of Magic Changes (featured in Grease) but mostly it was just a straight set, without much joking around or going wild. They had a good intro tape comprised of a slowed down voice saying 'Shooocked Elevaaatooor Faaamily' with a sample from Revenge of the Nerds, but they had to waste it by using it to fill time before they went on as they looked for Andrew who'd wandered off (they found him upstairs drinking wine). And the sound wasn't very good. |

*10th May '03, The Flapper with Yellobelly and Burnst - Just to say what I say everytime I update this bit, this last SEF gig was probably their best so far. The 'Family had pretty obviously honed the set to perfection and it paid off well. They rocked hard and fast and sounded really great. They played a cover of the Boss's 'Born in the USA' medleyed with 'Life with Madge' and an awesome version of 'Vestibule' which Bryn got all the audience to clap and sing along to, even getting some solo vocals from Morton Snr. There was a pretty big audience that night and they lapped it up. The show was branded: A Success. |
