Desert Banded Gecko
Desert Banded Gecko
Coleonyx variegatus variegatus
These lizards are commonly seen while night-driving for reptiles on warm summer evenings.
Though they appear to be very delicate they in fact live in some of the harshest areas of the desert.  They can be found in wide variety of terrain-types including rocky canyons, creosote flats, and sand dunes.  They eat small insects and spiders.  This particular gecko was photographed at the Imperial Sand Dunes on the very appropriately named Gecko Road.
