The Glossy Snake is one of the most common snakes of the desert but most people rarely see them because they are active chiefly after dark. They are frequently encountered when night-driving. These snakes can grow to over 5 feet in length and kill their prey by constriction. They are found in a wide variety of habitats from barren deserts to mountain woodlands. The snake in this photograph was found in the foothills of the Cerbat Mountains near Kingman, Arizona. |
