While all rattlesnakes are dangerous, the Mojave Rattlesnake is more dangerous than most. Its venom has a stronger effect on the nervous system of its victims than most other North American rattlesnakes. Although you can't see it in this picture, the snake in the bottom picture does not have a rattle. It had recovered from an injury that had damaged the tail and ruined the part the grows the rattles. Do not rely on the presence of a rattle to identify rattlesnakes: animal attacks or other injuries may remove their rattles. KNOW HOW TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGEROUS SNAKES IN YOUR AREA. The snake without the rattle was photographed near Kingman, Arizona; the juvenile snake was found near Phoenix, Arizona. |
