For Smokey…

This page is in loving tribute to my cat Smokey, who has, we believe, passed into the great beyond.  He was a faithful companion and loving friend.  I miss him dearly.  Following is an ode to Smokey that I wrote nearly nine years ago.  I present this as my tribute.

Text Box: Ode to My Cat

He sleeps and eats and sleeps and eats and sleeps and eats some more. He loves me, and I love him. We’ve been together seven years. He’s my friend, my confidant, and my master. I can tell him anything, and he won’t judge me.

Smokey, Smokey, Smokey. Your blue-grey fur is so cute. The blood in your right eye tells me that you know about pain. Your extra-large stomach and invisible neck tell me that you live a full life, in more ways than one. You sleep so soundly, of which I am envious. When provoked, you fight back, of which I am also envious. You are lightning-quick, something I’ve learned from you. You are ever so content with your life; I wish to be as content as you someday.
