The Dartnel

July 27, 2006

Now that Dartnel Lite is up and running, I can return my attention to the original Dartnel.

It has been a particularly difficult month for me.  This Monday, three weeks to the day of losing Grandma Russell, we lost my other grandmother, Mamie Plummer.  She was 94.

We continue to rehearse for Annie.  (GRRR!  STOP USING THAT SENTENCE!)  Shut up, Stan.  I mentioned previously that I was in a dance number.  Well, we never did figure out just what I was supposed to do in that dance scene, so I don’t even have to dance!  Yes, yes, we’re all excited.  Not only am I not allowed to sing, I’m not allowed to dance, either.  Guess our director is even smarter than I thought.  Either that, or my “Free Earplugs” idea didn’t go over very well!  The only bad thing about being in the play is that I’ll miss Singspiration at my church.  When the congregation heard this, boy, was I surprised!  I’ve never gotten so many Thank You cards in my life!!!  By the way, the performances are Friday, July 28, and Saturday, July 29, at 7:00 PM, and Sunday, July 30, at 2:00 PM.

Today’s uplifting thought from the Dartman:  There’s mo such thing as déjà vu.

I’ve realized something recently.  There’s no such thing as déjà vu.  (Whoa, I just got a feeling of déjà vu!)  I’ve realized something recently.  There’s no such thing as déjà vu.  (Whoa, I just got a feeling of déjà vu!)  I’ve realized something recently.  Th…  I could do this all day, but let’s get back to regular programming.

Strange Dream Section:  I dreamed the other night that I woke up and reset the alarm clock for 8:30.  The thing is, I actually believed it!  Imagine my shock when the alarm clock went off at 8:00!  I don’t normally believe my dreams, especially the ones in which a beautiful young woman takes a liking to me.  (I’m going to get more complaints!)

Speaking of more complaints, here’s the long-delayed…

Word of the Week:  apologian. meaning a formal defense or justification, especially of one's opinions, position, or actions (pronounced ap-uh-LOH-jee-uh or ap-uh-LOH-jee-juh)

Believe me, I have a lot of items on the Dartnel and Dartnel Lite that need various apologias.

Sign off.

It’s good to be back.  As always, I am happy to see each and every one of you.

The reason for my absence is due to bad news.  My grandmother, Sylvia Russell, passed away last Monday, July 3.  She was 86.  Keep my family in your prayers.

Now, back to the same-old, same-old.  We continue to rehearse for Annie.  (Would somebody tell this guy to stop  using that sentence?  We’re sick and tired of it!)  That’s odd… that never happened before.  As I was saying, I am now providing my multi-vocal talents to the show as an off-stage announcer.  I actually get to criticize FDR!  Just as an in-joke to me, and if our all-powerful director who will kill me if (s)he ever reads the Dartnel allows me to, I will be filling that announcing role with a voice slightly patterned on the first President Bush.  (In case you missed the punch line, FDR’s a Democrat and Bush is a Republican.)  Again, my role is fairly minor, but I’m still having fun with it.

Today’s uplifting thought from the Dartman:  To be poplar, stand straight in one place, don’t move, have plenty of exposure to sunlight, make sure you have plenty of water and fertilizer, be well-rooted…  Hold on, I meant to say popular.  Sorry about that!

I remember the first time I ever prayed.  It was on Thanksgiving, and I was 7.  My mom had invited the whole family down.  We had turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, corn, pumpkin pie, etc. and so on.  They asked me to pray.  I said that I didn’t know what to say.  Dad whispered to me, “Just say what your mom says.”  We bowed our heads, and I spoke, “Dear Lord, why did I invite all these folks here for dinner?”

Just kidding; I made that up!

How about something not made up?  Yep, here’s the…

Word of the Week:  cap-a-pieadv. meaning from head to foot; at all points (pronounced cap-uh-PEE)

Enjoy the new signature!
