Beauty and the Beast

THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW ~ Written on 20 June 2001

Trivia

1. "Be Our Guest" was actually animated with Maurice (Belle's father) but they decided not to waste it on a secondary character and redid it with Belle instead.

2. Chip (Tea-cup) originally had only one line, but the producers liked the voice so much that they had extra lines added.

3. Maurice encounters several signs in the forest which show names of California cities. One points to "Anaheim", where Disneyland is, and the other to a dark and sinister path leading to "Valencia", which happens to be where the rival Magic Mountain amusement park is.

4. Both Belle and Ariel are modelled after Sherri Stoner. She has since became both a writer for "Tiny Toons adventures" and "Animaniacs" and also co-producer of the movie "Casper". She even voiced the part of Slappy Squirrel in "Animaniacs".

1      At the start of the movie, the enchantress disguises herself as a old beggar woman and the Prince answers the door. Ever wondered why he has to answer the door himself? What happened to Cogsworth, the butler?

2      There are two gears on the roof-top of Belle's home but they both spin in a counter-clockwise direction. How is that possible?

3      When Belle is in the village singing, a sheep bites off a corner of her book. However in the next scene, the page appears intact.

4      Still on the book: Gaston flips through Belle's book and asks, "How can you read this? There's no pictures." What has happened to that picture of Prince Charming Belle showed the sheep just a few moments ago?

5      Maurice (Belle's father) and Phillipe (the horse) become separated in the forest and Maurice manages to reach the castle by chance. When Phillipe reaches home, Belle asks him to take her to her father, hence the castle. How did Phillipe know where the castle was if he had never been there?

6      Gaston enters Belle's house to propose to her and leaves the door open. However, just when Belle wants to force him out of the house, the door has magically closed by itself.

7      Strangely though, the door of Belle's house opens both ways. Belle leans against the closed door, opens it outwards and lets Gaston fall face down into the mud puddle. But after she throws his boots at him, Belle slams the door from the inside.

8      Even stranger is that the whole wedding party disappears between the short time Gaston exits the house and Belle's own exit for her to sing the reprise of "Belle".

9      When the Beast is injured after fighting the wolves, Belle puts him onto Phillipe and heads for the castle. How did she manage to get someone as big as the Beast onto the back of the horse?

10    Remember the three dumb blonde triplets? If you notice carefully, the three of them keep changing hairstyles. At the end of Gaston's song in the tarven, they all spot the same hairstyle.

11    Just a small point when it comes to counting the number of years. The Prince has been enchanted as the Beast for the past ten years and is approaching his 21st birthday. This means he was about ten years old when he was enchanted. Then why is there a painting of him as an adult in the castle? Why does the stained glass in the first few scenes show him as an adult? Why would a ten year old prince answer the door in the first place???
