Medical Drama

Yes Pls!
Wonderful onscreen couples.
Riveting medical emergencies.
Funny.
No thanks!
What?! Another sequel?? Another Hong Kong medical drama/movie.

VS

You didn't see wrongly. I managed to catch both drama serials even before Healing Hands was broadcasted on TCS 8, by renting the whole serial(s) in Cantonese. (Yes, I do speak Cantonese) At least I don't have to suffer with the disgusting translations in Chinese. The speech sounded more natural and was (in my opinion) more musical.

The sequel, Healing Hands 2, picks off two years after the dramatic end of the first serial. It consists of 40 episodes and boosts a bigger cast than the first serial.

10    Kit, Kit, Kit!!!

This is the first drama serial that Kit Chan (one of my idols) is acting in. She plays Dorothy, an A&E (Accident and Emergency) doctor, under the tutelage of Henry. Kit will also be staring in one of Channel U's drama serial as a single mother of one. I can't wait to see her performance!

9      Oh Missy, Oh Missy, where art thou??

There is more emphasis on the part of the nurses in the sequel. They are interact more both with the patients and the doctors, having meatier roles as compared to the extras seen in Healing Hands. Some of them even have romances with the doctors. (I wonder how true this is in real life?)

8        The Cast strikes back!

Remember the main cast of Healing Hands? Most of them, namely Paul, Henry, Jackie and Annie, return to continue where they left off two years ago. Audiences were left with the cliff-hanger of Jackie in a coma after the heart-wrenching operation Paul performed. For the rest of the supporting cast, only Guang (Jackie's ex), her father and Peter (the anaesthetist) return from the start. Joe (the other A&E doctor) returns only towards the end of the sequel.

7       Reincarnation + Circle of Life?

I've noticed two actresses (with very very small roles) returning in the sequel but play totally different people altogether. Remember when Paul was sued by a patient for her uterus removal? The patient returns as the PR manager of the hospital. In addition, the girl that was raped by a taxi driver returns as a nurse in the sequel. TVB seems to be short on actors and actresses. (Maybe I can audition :)

6        Return of the Jie-Di-Lian

For those who don't understand chinese, the above translates as elder sister-younger brother relationship, i.e. the girlfriend is older. In Healing Hands, there was Joe and Helen. In the sequel, there are not one but TWO such potential relationships. Of course, I won't reveal who are involved and whether it turns out well.

5       Departmental Wars

In the sequel, more hospital departments like Obstetrics and Gynecology, Cardiology, General Medicine and Surgery are introduced. Interestingly, even the social workers and the CEO of the hospital were portrayed in the sequel.

4       The Right Connections

The doctors all seem to be very fashionable and carry the latest handphone models in both serials. In Healing Hands, all the doctors are spotted with Ericsson T18 mobile phones. In Healing Hands 2, they've all upgraded to Nokia 8210 and 8510. (Alright, it's being two years. Their 2-yr plans have long expired :)

3       Death of a doctor

On second thought, make that two. That's right, two of the doctors in the sequel are 'killed off'. One by a fire caused in a freak accident and the other by a disgruntled family-cum-'employee'. In addition, there are more cast in the sequel who are plagued with diseases, mostly life-threatening.

2       Henry and his women trouble

<Spoiler Alert!> Henry is still plagued with women trouble. Other than Annie, he becomes entwined with three other women, one of whom is Dorothy. The two ladies can be considered to be her 'relatives'. :) Towards the end of the sequel, one of the three women appears to bear his child!

1       Paul and his ill-fated women

<Spoiler Alert!> Paul seems to bring bad luck to all women associated with him. In Healing Hands, his ex-wife never seems to find a good boyfriend and Jackie was left in a coma. In the sequel, Jackie only appears in the first 8-9 episodes. Paul's ex (from schooling years) returns only to find that she has an incurable cancer. Later on, Paul's new girlfriend follow Jackie's footsteps and is operated on by Paul! Why didn't they all take the hint???
