"Night of the Living Dead" [Remake] (United States, 1990)

---i had never seen this before but i had good hopes seeing as it was written by George Romero and directed by horror effects master Tom Savini!  weird, huh?  anyway - the movie.  almost a total re-do at the very start, but then things take a strange turn.  first off, Barbara is not the confused, weak kitten she is in the original - oh, no, sir - here she's the total 90's woman, kicking ass and toting guns!  yes!!  okay, maybe it's kinda campy but it was still kinda cool, too.  the story continues down some familiar paths and whatnot, with a few minor changes, and some familiar dialogue points come up here and there.  all in all an interesting take on the original, written by the guy who co-wrote and directed the original.  it worked pretty well, i thought, though there were very few zombies!!  come on!  i know the original didn't have that many zombies going for it, either, but at least it had that last explosion of a zombie carnage attack, you know?  this remake has a few zombies attack and that's it.  i mean, they show a ton of zombies out in the distance at one point, but they never attack!  AND THERE WASN'T ONE GORE SCENE!!  bah!  i have scarier daydreams when i'm thinking about hello kitty in polka-dot pajamas....
