2000 Presidential "Election"
December 12, 2000 is a dark day in American history. Future historians will mark that day as the beginning of the end of the greatest experiment in democracy ever undertaken by humans. On that day, the five rabid right-wing Republican members of the United States Supreme Court betrayed the American people and the Constitution they had sworn to uphold by refusing to allow the votes in Florida to be counted in the 2000 presidential election. Instead, in the most flagrant abuse of power this country has ever seen, they disenfrancised Florida voters and appointed the conservative Republican George "Shrub" Bush to the office of presidency.  In so doing, they imposed their will on the citizens of the United States because Mr. Bush shares their political beliefs (to the extent that this man of questionable qualifications to be president, being a puppet of Big Business and other special interests, was even capable of having an original vision for the country, but that's another story...)
In addition to the outrage I continue to feel at this "judicial coup d'etat" (see The Betrayal of America, by Vincent Bugliosi), I am completely baffled at the lack of public outcry against the "gang of five" on the Court. This flagrant abuse of power should not be a partisan issue.  All Americans, conservatives and liberals alike, should be concerned about this abrogation of the democratic process by the Supreme Court, and the serious assault on our system of government.
The legal issues surrounding the stealing of the presidency not withstanding, Shrub's presence in the Oval Office is a slap in the face of everything that this country supposedly stands for.  We're fond of saying that anyone can succeed in this country through diligence and hard work.  Enter a man who's the antithesis of that image. He's been pampered all of his life, and has not a clue what is involved in making his own way in the world.  He partied his way through Yale,  disinguishing himself as being incredibly average. Then he became governor in a state in which that job is essentially a figurehead position, simply because of his family background.  Even worse, that name recognition earned him a position on the presidential ballot!  In the ultimate hypocrisy, Bush argues that it is unconstitutional for disadvantaged individuals to be given any special consideration; yet every single position he has had in his life has been as a result of family connections. Even though a majority of the voters recognized he was totally unqualified for the job, he nonetheless managed to steal the office with the help of a Supreme Court that was constructed by his father and Ronnie Ray-Gun.  So Mr. Bush's first real job is president of the United States!  What a mockery he makes of the institution.

Since beginning his illegal occupation of the White House, Mr. Bush has done nothing to disabuse the notion that he is a puppet of Big Business.  He has consistently put forth proposals that favor Big Business and the wealthiest 1% of the population of the United States.  His environmental policies are an absolute disaster.  His  first action as alleged president was to cancel the United States' participation the Kyoto global warming treaty.  He has relaxed standards for tolerable levels of arsenic in drinking wather, and more recently has relaxed clean air standards for power plants in the northeast.  In the doublespeak for which he has become known, his administration claimed that the relaxation of emission standards would ultimately lead to cleaner air! (?).  Curiously, that odd assertion has not been question by members of the mainstream media, all of whom seem to bow in his direction several times per day.  Now that his repugnicans are in charge of the Congress,  (which he facilitated in part by manurfacturing a "crisis" in Iraq in order to divert attention from his domestic failures), it's only a matter of time before drilling for oil begins in the Arctic.
"Come the Millennium, month 12, in the home of the greatest power, the village idiot will come forth and be acclaimed the leader"

Even though Nostradamas didn't really write those words, the sentiment is certainly accurate!
Mr. George "Shrub" Bush, White House squatter,  brought to you courtesy of the following Bush lap dogs:
The Dishonorable William Rehnquist, Thief in Chief, US Supreme Court
The Dishonorable Antonin Scalia, Associate Injustice, US Supreme Court
The Dishonorable Sandra Day O'Connor, Associate Injustice, US Supreme Court
The Dishonorable Anthony Kennedy, Associate Injustice, US Supreme Court
The Dishonorable Clarence Thomas, Associate Injustice, US Supreme Court
Since he stole the presidency, poverty has increased, and health care has become increasingly inaccessible.  In other words, the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer (big surprise).

After the recent mid-term elections, Mr. Bush will have carte blance to advance his party's intolerant right-wing social agenda.  Since Republicans have control of the Sentate, they will doubtless roll over and let Mr. Bush have his way with them.  They can be expected to rubber-stamp every right-wing judicial nominee he sends their direction, since   "moderate" Republicans are virtually nonexistent.  Consequently we can expect to see increasing intolerace against  the GLBT community and anyone else who doesn't fit the mold demanded by the conservative "Christians" who are in control of the Republican social agenda. A woman's right to choose is also in serious jeopardy.

My disagreements with Republican policies, particularly their intolerant social agenda, is nothing new.  The difference this time is that those advancing this agenda are there illegally.  In other words:
Bush Cheated!!!
