Pandit Pundalik N. Bhoir

Pandit Pundalik N. Bhoir started "Harmonium Research and Promote Institute" with the primary aim of giving "Harmonium", it's due importance and place, in Indian Classical Music. Traditionally, Harmonium was not considered correct for solo recitals. It was considered incomplete and only fit for accompaniment.

Panditji, through intensive research since last 20 years and with blessings of Maa Saraswati, has managed to develop many modifications in the tuning of Harmonium which makes it fit even for solo recitals.

Harmonium

‘Harmonium' has become established as a popular musical instrument in last hundred years. To this day, any musical recital seems incomplete without Harmonium or if it is not efectively played. Unfortunately, majority of well known scholars those who have authoritatively played this instrument, labeled it incomplete and appropriate only for accompaniment.

Panditji honestly believes that though harmonium is a western type of instrument, he has taken sincere efforts to tune ‘Shruti Scale' instead of ‘Tempered scale' for which harmonium is traditionally used. Right from ancient literates and scholars like ‘Bharat Mooni', ‘Sharangdev' to the recent ‘Pandit Bhatkhande' and ‘Pandit Omkarnath Thakur' in his book, ‘Indian classical Compositors' (Bhartiya Swar Shastra) have proved the accurate placements of ‘Shruti Scaling' on Harmonium.

It is Panditji's honest conclusion that with approved modification with Gatkari and Laykari in Harmonium, Solo recital has great future and it can overshadow the traditionally believed limitations and weaknesses. He has showcased his experiments on Solo recital many times and most eager to share his views and knowledge, anytime. Few major changes which are technical can be only experienced. Hence, he needs your approval, support & recognition in his experimental journey and listen to his modified Harmonium recital through his stage performances.
