Chloe MacPherson

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Chloe Macpherson and I am currently sixteen years of age. I have lived the vast majority of my life in Moranbah, however I have recently moved to Mackay. I am currently in year 11.

Congratulations on winning your 6th World Title.  Were you confident going into the event that you would have a chance at winning?  Who did you think your main competition would come from?

Thank you, I was a little bit nervous leading into the competition. In BMX anything can happen in the final or the moto’s so I just took each race as it come along. My main competition at the World Champ’s was from the Australian riders – Nikki Harper and Nicole Calisto.

Are you looking forward to the step up to Junior Elite next year?

Certainly, I have been waiting for this since I was a young kid. It will be much harder than racing normal my age category however I am looking forward to the challenge.

What type of bike do you ride?

GT Ultra Box

Who are your sponsors?

GT, Troy Lee Designs, Profile, ACS, Odi & Dirt designs

How did you get involved in BMX and how long have you been racing?  How long do you think you will keep racing?

My sister, Ammie started BMX through a school friend and I guess I got tiresome of sitting on the sidelines, so my mum got me a bike when I was around 6 –7 years of age and I haven’t looked back since. I have recently began to participate a lot more in other cycling disciplines so I am not entirely sure as to what lies ahead in the future of BMX for me.

What major results and achievements have you had?

6 time world champion, 6 time national champion, and 7 time state champion.

What has been your most memorable moment/s in BMX?

My most memorable moment in BMX would have to be claiming that number podium at the World Championships, every year they mean more too me than the previous.

What has been your biggest disappointment in BMX?

I do not have any disappointments in BMX.

Who would you say is/has been your toughest competitor?

There are many terrific females in Australia. However I would say Tanya Bailey because she is such a diverse rider.

What are your future goals/ambitions?  Is there anything that you haven’t achieved yet, but would like to?

Once winning my first world title in Melbourne, my dream was to make an elite class final at the World Championships. Hopefully I will fulfill that dream in Holland next year.

I have recently been riding Velodrome and some local road races. I have been enjoying it immensely and I feel I could possibly get a lot of satisfaction from this cycling discipline. GT guys (Simon and Steve) have been behind me 100% of the way with their support, encouragement and backing.  Thanks guys!

What do you like most about BMX?

BMX has many areas, which gives me enjoyment. I have made lifetime friends both in Australia and international origins. The challenge that BMX brings to me provides me with a chance to excel in the sport that I consider very important to me.

What do you least like about BMX?

The only one thing that I dislike about BMX is the unfair treatment of females and when it rains L

What states have you raced in in Australia?

I have competed in every state in Australia.

What is your favourite race meeting to attend and why?

My favourite race meeting would definitely be the World Championships. It is the event all riders aspire to and to watch all of my training pay off with a good performance is excellent.

How do you think more females could be encouraged to start racing BMX?  How do you think the females that are already involved in BMX could be encouraged to stay in the sport?

In our society there has been a constructed stereotypical view that BMX is male orientated, which most people would agree with. But I think BMX along with many other well-known sports you cannot break down the gender equality.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of BMX?  What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy shopping, spending time with my friends and trying to learn to surf.  I often spend a great amount of time on my road bike.

What is your favourite music to listen to?

I listen to most kinds of music, mainly top 40 stuff.

Do you have a favourite TV show?

I don’t really watch all that much TV however my favourite thing to watch is probably home & away or rage.

Do you have any words of wisdom for the younger riders?

Basically if you really want it that bad, you will go to any lengths to get there. Give it your best shot.

This is the thank you part, so fire away.

I would just like to say a HUGE thanks to my family and friends especially my mum and dad, because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have been able to get half as far within BMX. Also I big thanks to all the guys at GT  (Simon & Steve) for your endless support and encouragement you have given me this year.
