The question may come to mind. Why these kind of movies? Most people would sneer for admitting they watch let alone enjoy Mexican wrestling movies, sci-fi, etc... People look down at these movies... They are different. I enjoy a action movie as anyone else. But, a lot of them give new levels to the word "craptacular."

At least, we are honest. The movies would never win an Academy Award. But, that isn't the point. The point is entertainment. The latest Steven Segal movie or Chopper Chicks in Zombietown? Most people I know who saw the Fellowship of the Ring or the Two Towers were blown away by them. But, remember Peter Jackson also directed Meet the Feebles a movie that could only be described by "Muppet Show on acid".

I could talk about Sam Raimi and the "Evil Dead" movies. How about James Cameron directing a movie about flying killer piranhas and then going on to direct Terminator? I got to the point I would ignore any sci-fi review in a newspaper. The reviewer would talk more about how one of the actors was so much better in an episode of Masterpiece Theater that was made 10 years earlier. Does the reviewer think that anyone who might enjoy the movie would enjoy the drama? Possibly...I think these reviewers are more concerned with sounding pretentious than really informing the public.

People use sci-fi, fantasy, horror as throwaway entertainment. But, almost all the top grossing movies are in that throwaway category. I don't just like sci-fi and that's it. I've found a lot of different types of movies that I've seen and enjoyed. Just because a lot of people like it doesn't mean it should be praised.

For the longest time, when I was younger, the movie I truly hated and couldn't tolerate was Killer Klowns from Outer Space. But, then I saw 15 minutes of Moulin Rouge that movie took 15 minutes of my life from me I want back... I could tolerate watching all of the Albert Pyun version of Captain America with an Italian Red Skull. It was bad...But nothing is Moulin Rouge bad. And one day I'll find a movie that is worse than Moulin Rouge. And that fact scares me...NOTE Currently, Massacre is what I consider the bottom of the dung pile.
