Local Education Authorities
have a duty to make arrangements for Parent Partnership Services (PPS) to support families of children with special educational needs.  After some years of providing an in-house service Lewisham Education recently took the decision to contract out the service to the voluntary sector.  The new service is managed by the Pre-school Learning Alliance and the team is comprises two part-time  parent Partnership Officers, Lesley Davis, a vacant post and an Administration Officer, Teresa Weller.

The aim of the PPS is to ensure that parents of children aged up to 19 with additional needs have access to information, advice and guidance with regard to the special educational needs of their children, so that they can make appropriate, informed decisions. The service will provide advice to parents of all children with special educational needs, not only those with statements.  They provide information on the SEN process, & help parents’ access services & support from other agencies, both statutory & voluntary, and support groups.
