The rules of Sigran Weyr:

The Dragons

At Sigran Weyr there are five colors of dragons as dictated by Anne McCaffrey. The dragons also have a gender imperative which directs, for the most part, who they Impress. Thus, some colors will Impress only one gender or the other while some will choose both. The color/gender pairings are:

Gold -Straight women only. A gold will never choose a man.
Bronze -Straight males only. A bronze will never choose a woman.
Brown - Mostly straight males with a few bi-sexual males. A brown will never choose a woman.
Blue -Bi-sexual males and females or homosexual females.
Greens -Impressed by straight females and homosexual males.

Within those five colors of dragons there may be certain variations of color, ie. a pale brown dragon with dark brown accents or a bronze with green highlights, but the five basic colors will not be deviated from so please keep the variations reasonable.

Flitters, for the most part, will not be approved in an application until the writer has proven themselves through their writing, especially the gold and bronze flits. Metallic flitters must be earned, the same as dragons. Characters will be allowed up to four flitters, only one of which may be metallic. In addition, no candidates will be allowed to have a flit under two turns old. It's too much work for a candidate to take care of two babies at one time, thus the age limit.

Any and all clutches and their color distribution are under the control of the Board of Directors, be they flitter clutches or dragon. Green flitters will rarely keep their clutches as greens are rather scatterbrained and very likely to forget that they even laid a clutch, much less where it is. If you would like to keep your green flitter's clutch, please ask the BoD. Green dragons will never lay a clutch because the chewing of firestone renders them sterile.

The Rules of Hatchings and Impression

The color of the dragon that your character Impresses will be based on a variety of reasons, including how well you write. If you say that you only want one color, you'll have an equal chance to Impress that color as everyone else, but you aren't guaranteed what you wanted. In fact, if you only put down one color and your character doesn't get it, then your character won't have Impressed at all at that Hatching.

When there is a clutch on the sands, the Board of Directors will spend a great deal of time deciding on the distribution of the colors in addition to what color goes to each individual. WARNING: You may not get your first choice in terms of color. Still, getting ANY dragon is an honor. Choosing multiple colors will give you a somewhat greater chance of achieving that honor.

When we choose who gets the gold and bronze dragons, which are extremely rare here at Sigran Weyr, we will give preferential treatment to the players who show us that they have all the qualities we are looking for; namely that they post often and well, they are involved in storylines that they have created as well as those that are created by others, their overall participation AND those who DO NOT already have a gold (and no more than one bronze) in any other Weyr. In addition, if you are already on the BoD or if you have more than one ranking character, you are much less likely to receive bronze or gold.

Because we are in an Interval, Clutches occur only two or three times a year, if that. When a Hatchings occur, the candidates will bathe, get dressed in the traditional white robe and sandals and assemble at the Hatchings Grounds, after which they will be led out onto the Sands. Each candidate-player will be notified beforehand if they've Impressed, and if so, what color they have Impressed. Once your dragonet finds you, that dragonet is your NPC to play.

Other Important Information

All major storylines need to be approved by the BoD. These would be stories where someone gets injured or killed, any major changes to the Weyr, Lord Holders, their ladies, any character not your own or any storyline that would affect the entire Weyr. Greenflights do not need BoD approval, but we would appreciate it greatly if you would let us know when you plan to have one because we might have a major storyline worked out that you don't know about yet that the flight might interfere with. We don't want any plans to get messed up because of a mistake that could easily have been prevented with a simple heads-up e-mail.

We have a few age limits set out for different types of characters. Here at Sigran Weyr:

Candidates will be ages 15 to 22.
Dragonriders will be ages 16 and up.
Craft Apprentices will be ages 12 and up.
Journeymen or Journeywomen will be ages 18 and up.
Masters will be ages 30 and up.
Holders will be ages 25 and up.
Lord Holders will be ages 25 and up.

NO FLAMING. You will get two warnings about this and if you do it a third time you will be removed from our group. No exceptions. Flaming is usually defined as playing another's character without their express permission. We don't like to discipline people for this, and people don't like to be disciplined, for something that is so easily avoided so don't do it. Also, there is no war, religion, or magic on Pern. Other universes, people, and races, whether created by Ms. Anne McCaffrey or by anyone else, will ever co-exist with Pern. In addition, Pern is considered off-limits to everyone so no one will come looking for them. These are easy things to avoid so please don't bother writing these situations. Also, if you plan to advertise anything, please run it by the BoD. We usually don't mind this kind of thing, but it's nice to know what's what before sending it out to the group.

Please remember, if you're not sure about something, please ask the BoD! We are here to help you.
