The Holy Quran Screen Saver

This is a screen saver that displays verses from the Holy Quran (the English translation) on a black background. It selects a verse at random, but does not repeat the selection until every verse in the Quran has been exhausted.

The setup program is 4.24 Megs. Although the program by itself is around 45 KByes, but the rest of the file is inflated by the Holy Quran which takes up about 2 MBytes, and of course add another 2 Megs of information supplied by Microsoft's Visual Basic.

This program was designed for Microsoft Windows 95, but some have installed it on Windows NT, and it woked fine.

The Quran Saver has the following options:

Animation

The text can either be static where it directly appears in the center of the screen, or it can slide to the center in one of four ways:

Slide from the top of the screen
Slide from the bottom of the screen
Slide from the left of the screen
Slide from the right of the screen

Either one of the 5 (including the static) types can be selected to display the verses, or the computer can randomly select between them.

Animation Speed

The speed of any of the sliding options can be changed to comfortable level.

Time Delay

The delay between each verse and the next can be set to value between 1 and 60 seconds

Fonts and Font Colors

Any font on your system can be chosen including all the associated font properties such as bold, Italic, underlined and so on. The font size is limited to a maximum of 48 pts.

Also, the selected font can have any color the system can display.

Stop Key

Although the Quran saver quits when either the mouse has moved or a key was struck, the saver can be frozen by pressing the "s" character. After the key is pressed the timer stops. This way you can enjoy reading the verse for a longer period of time. To resume, press "s" again.

Note: Even if the saver is frozen it will quit if a key other than the "s" was pressed.

Reported Problems

A few people have told me that they recieved an error message saying that the Quran database couldn't be loaded. I have worked on this problem, and I got it fixed.

After I made the fix, people sent me messages that it was working just fine. No one has sent me a single complain about the porgram yet. But should you get an error, a dialog box will appear on the screen with the error information. Please record the information and send it to my e-mail address appearing on that dialog box.

To get the zipped file click here, qsaver.zip. I would recommend before you download the program that you get a program that has the ability to resume if you get dropped. Some people told me that they get dropped after dowloading about 40% of the file
