Which software should you use to build and maintain your site here at GeoCities? With the recent changes made by GeoCities to give us direct access to our homestead directories thru FTP and the recent introduction of Subdirectories for ALL homesteaders, the lineup of compatible software is limitless. Here I will list details on a number of software packages that I use personally, or that have bene recommended to me by other users, along with either download information or helpful hints and tools.

WS_FTP LE

The most popular Windows FTP program around, WS_FTP Limited Edition is free for non-commercial user (see License for details). In this part of The AnswerPoint, you can find links to download the WS_FTP LE software and the most complete setup instructions for using it with GeoCities (even the makers of WS_FTP link to this site for GeoCities setup instructions!).

If you don't meet the requirements of the LE license, or maybe you are a power user looking for even better tools, check out the full version of WS_FTP Pro.  It includes an enhanced user interface, full integration with the Windows95/98 Explorer and more. Details are available here on this site.

Fetch

Fetch is (so I'm told) one of the most popular Macintosh FTP programs available. Written by the Dartmouth University. It is shareware, with limited free use available to users associated with educational institutions (i.e., students and teachers) and non-profit organizations.

FrontPage 98

This excellent program (yes, I admit it!) can be a great help, or a pain in the you know what when using it with GeoCities. Here's some help hints and tools for using FP98 with GeoCities web sites.
