Tom, would you be able to discuss with the purchase of mill and lathe. I have not been able to find a machinist to advise me. I am a physician (Otolaryngologist) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I am starting a side business to produce products for woodturners and possibly grow a machine shop for other products in the future. I have made prototypes of an ornamental mill and steady for the brand woodlathe I own. I think my designs are unique and have received positive feedback from other woodworkers. I am trying to decide on new versus used equipment. I can lease new and spread the cost over the future or buy some great looking used equipment from a Salt Lake City company that specialized in equipment stored by the military and now being sold. I am concerned about the chinese new equipment but will be considering Mighty turn lathe locally and the Mighty mill. I am also considering Clausing new equipment. I realize someone else can not make the choices for me but my question is this. Are there old or new brands to avoid? Would I be better off with an old LeBlond or Lodge and Shipley lathe than a new asian. I am hoping an impartial machinist who is not trying to sell the machines might be able to give me some pointers. Appreciate any help you might be able to give Thanks Keith Clark, MD, PhD clarkfamily5@home.com
