New for AOA
We have added..
Senior citizens and Technology
A growing number of Wolfeboro area senior citizens, now called ThirdAgers have decided computers can be useful in their lives, It is recognized tint not all of them are comfortable with this new technology. A new program has been initiated to conduct a computer lab for ThirdAgers. The teachers are Kingwood Regional High School students. The computer lab is located in the adjoining Middle School. For an hour a week the high school students (teachers) donate their time to meet with the ThirdAgers (students). There is no set agenda. Whatever the interests of the ThirdAgers are on that particular day, that is what is studied. For reference they use one of the Shelly Cashman series text books "Discovering Computers 98". The book is billed as ''a link to the future'' and that is what the ThirdAgers are looking for in the lab. The text is ''world wide web enhanced''. All the new computers in the lab are on the Internet. Everyone has their own computer terminal. The computer lab is conducted from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. Rick Davidson, the regular computer lab instructor, is still in the classroom. He acts as a resource person because of his knowledge of computers and experience with teaching adults as well as Middle School students. He also operates the digital camera. In addition to learning about computers and how to operate them, some of the uses of the computer and the Internet are:

The computer lab is working. The high school students are knowledgeable and understanding. Several of the ThirdAgers do not own computers. Others with computers are not on the internet. In addition to the computers at the Middle School, the ThirdAgers can reserve time on the computer at tile Library. A private company in town, Mail Boxes, Etc, has computers to rent by the hour. It is possible to have the benefits obtained from computer use without actually having to buy one. Additional computer instruction is available to the residents from the library and from the Continuing Education classes at the Kingswood Regional schools.
