Ed, As you are now in Limerick, perhaps you can help with my dilemma. My another g-grandfather, David McAuliffe of Limerick (possibly Newcastle West) and his wife Margaret Jones of Limerick also left for London, Eng. in early 1850's. Married in spanish lace Chapel, Marlebone, Middlesex in June 1853, had two infants who died in infancy before emigrating to Canada about 1855/6. Their marriage registration shows David's father as Daniel and Margaret's as John. No mother's names registered. Two of David's sons, married two of Andrew Fogarty's daughters, hence I have many double cousins. I cannot confirm that David may be son of Daniel McAuliffe and Catherine Curtin who were married in Mahoonagh (Limerick Archives) since ages are as much as 6 years off fro later records. Cork has not been of any help either.

Am researching the Fogarty family. My g-grandfather Andrew Fogarty and siblings Matthew, John and Johanna were baptized in Lixnaw, Co.Kerry 1823-1831. Children of John Fogarty and Elizabeth/Ellen Costello. Since the Fogarty Clan apparently originated in Tipperary and no Kerry marriage records can be found for John/Elizabeth, I check out all possible Tipperary records as well. Can you help?

A most interesting website on my hometown - well done. I left Thurles in 1964, aged 18 and have spent the last 30 years living in Cwmbran, South Wales. I get home generally once a year, the most recent visit in May where my family stayed with my sister-in law in Thomond Road. I meet up with the cousins/friends (Michael/Tommy Lyons, Mitchell St. John Maxey, Michael Fielding etc.on their visit to Wales for the Rugby internationals every couple of years. Sometimes at work, I bring a bottle of whisky in with me and down that when no-one is looking. great Tipp site . The Tipp senior hurling team selection is a joke at present . Noel Keane (Blackrock ) is the best full back in Ireland . Aidan Butler is a far better player than any of the current midfielders . While the addition of Paddy O Brien and Jo nny Enright to the forward division is essential if any progress is to be made in trying to restore pride in the blue and gold . I've spent MANY wonderful times in Thurles. My Dad (RIP) was born there. My Father was a hurler, as were his Brothers, his Father, and his Grand Uncle played in the very first Hurling All-Ireland.........Up Tipp!!!! There are 2 Senior medals won by my Grandpa (1930 & 1938) and my Dad won a minor in 1947 (Dermot Butler) I believe all his Brothers have minor medals as well. My Father came to America in the 50's and hurled out here on the New York Team at Gaelic Park i the Bronx, NY........ Thurles was always A-one in my books!!!!!!!!!!!

I am doing a genealogy search of my ancestors who came to Canada in the 1850's-1860's. A record of a deceased great aunt stated my great-great grandfather was from "Ballyclough County, Lisburn, Ireland. James Smyth born in about 1801 and his son James S yth born September 11, 1825, both of whom came to Canada. A search of Ballyclough brought up County Limerick. I believe there is no Ballyclough County. These ancestors might have been "Smith".

Mine & my wife's family originated in County Roscommen. Her family is from Boyle and were sent to Australia. My father came from Keejew (?)and settled in the U.S. in 1930. He just passed away two months ago at 89. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Roscommen last May-June and anxiously look forward to returning. It was the highlite of our too-short visit. Well first of all i loved the book Angella's Ashes especially because my grandmother was Mary Bridget Slattery from Limerick, Ir. Now I just found out that my great granmother's name was Catherine O'Connor. Very interesting to look at the map of Limerick nd see O'Connor Av. and O'Connor's Drug Store. I am looking for a source in Limerick where I can find information on my roots. My ancestors, James Roach emigrated to Nova Scotia (Annapolis Royal) in the 16 or 1700's. Apparently, his forbearers were Hugenots from France who settled in the north of Ireland. I believe this James Roach must have come from the north to settle in Limerick. I'm told my ancestors came from Thurles, Ireland. My wife did genealogical research, but could only go back to 1878 in Thurles as she was told the birth records were kept by the Catholic Church and the church burned down. My grandfather on my mother's si e came from Dublin, but I think both of my father's parents were from Thurles. I was born in Hammond, Indiana, in 1937, and lived in Utah since I was three-years-old. I currently have a son, Christopher Alan Dwan, starting a master's program at the Univ rsity of London. I have been with the University of Utah for 24 years. There was a nun here in Salt Lake for many years named Sister Nora Dwan, a distance cousin, I'm sure, who is retired now in Ireland. I hear from her two to three times a year. I've ever been to Ireland, although I have seen it many times from 35,000 feet coming and going from the European continent. I'm preparing to retire now, and will plan to visit Thurles. Hello Limerick! My how you have come along in the world since I visited a rather sad city in the 70's. Now I am tracing my routes and soon will be applying for Irish citizenship which comes to me by way of my grandmother, Alice Toomey. I have here befo e me a baptism certificate from St. Munchin's which I do not see on your site. Nor is there any mention of it in Mr. McCort's wonderful book. Are there any Toomey's out there? Suggestion: Would be nice if you had a map of the city with highlights and p ints of interest. Good luck to you and when I see you again I'll be coming home.

My g-g-grandparents, James Hetherington and Catherine McGrath, came from Thurles. They emigrated to Australia in 1841 with their children, Jeffrey, Thomas, John, Peter, Mary Ann and Catherine. I have tried to find out info about them in Ireland without re ult but it was very interesting to see photos of Thurles as it was when they were there. Good site.

I lived in Limerick from 1982-1984. I was one of three Americans that started the Atari Plant there. We built the building that Dell is in now. (well at least half of it.) I saw a picture recently. I have an ancestor from Thurles. Patrick LONG was born about 1807 the son of Thomas Long of Thurles. Patrick arrived Sydney per 'Abbotsford' in 1839. He was a blacksmith. He married Ann Lennon in Penrith NSW in 1842 and they produced 9 children. Patrick d ed 1862 in Hartley aged 57. Ann remarried. Great site. Can't believe that there are pictures of my cousin Adrian Delahunty on it though. What is the world coming too at all? Ed, What a brillant site - about Moycarkey! Squeeze em up! I also played hurling and football for moycarkey at u12, u14, u16 & minor levels in the 70's and early 80's! We won everything in the mid them times. I've lots of medals somewhere. Now here's something of interest. Last year, in Ballyerk, I saw hundreds of slides and photos of moycarkey teams from the 70's taken by Paddy Grady. Perhaps they would be of use to the site? Ed, excellent site. Just like to say that I'm in full agreement with Brian McGrath about a REAL Munster final this year between ourselves and Cork. Anything else is just a farce so hard luck to the Clare boys. Maybe ye can listen to Loughnane and Daly rothing on for the rest of the Summer about how there was a big conspiracy involving the whole GAA and they brought in the CIA and the FBI to pull it off. That should be an improvement on last years conspiracy theory. I hear Mel Gibson was actually thin ing of using Loughnane's story for the sequel to Conspiracy Theory. Anyway, I'd just like to remind the Clare boys, before ye can call yourselves a great team, think about this : we still have more football all-ireland titles than ye have in hurling. And remember : Tipperary, The Premier County and The Real Home of Hurl ng. We also have 24 all-ireland hurling titles with at least one in every decade. Of course this can't compare to a brilliant THREE titles. Yes, I can see ye are the best that was, is and ever will be. (Note the strong tone of sarcasm).

We enjoyed visiting Thurles last summer. My Cass family emmigrated to the USA around 1850 from Kil, which is now known as Kilkillahara. We met Paddy Egan who now farms what they still call the Casses fields. What a rewarding visit. We stayed at the An er House, which was excellent. I would still like to do more research on the family as the Cass name is mentioned as being in Thurles around 1300 in the Red Book of Ormand. We look forward to returning for a longer stay.

So glad to find source of information about Thurles as I have just found that my great grandmother was born there in 1857. Her sister born there also in 1851 married there before coming to USA. Thier children were Mary A. born 1822, Edward born Jan 17 1823, Richard born Mar 27 1825 ( my great grandfather), and Annastasia born may 6 1829 all were born in waterford, But their parents had somet ng to do with a castle. after they were killed, the children lived with their grandparents and a greatmother. also other relivtes. Edward and this couisn had a fight in public over the same girl. then Edward was sent to Canda he then went on to America the other children came about 1850. Mary married a ship's captain on the way over williams Walsh also from Ireland. Their uncle and Aunt were Arthur born in 1813 in kilmacthomas and Helena (ellen) Boulger gough born 1847 same co. Thier children were Mary A. born 1822, Edward born Jan 17 1823, Richard born Mar 27 1825 ( my great grandfather), and Annastasia born may 6 1829 all were born in waterford, But their parents had somet ng to do with a castle. after they were killed, the children lived with their grandparents and a greatmother. also other relivtes. Edward and this couisn had a fight in public over the same girl. then Edard was sent to Canda he then went on to America. the other children came about 1850. Mary married a ship's captain on the way over williams Walsh also from Ireland. Their uncle and Aunt were Arthur born in 1813 in kilmacthomas and Helena (ellen) Boulger born 1847 same co.
