Mario and Luigi are the average racers. I recommend them to players
that aren't experts, but aren't intermediate drivers either. Personally, I never
drive with these too. They don't have enough speed or acceleration.

Princess
and Yoshi are the fastest in the acceleration category. I recommend them for intermediate
players. I sometimes use these two. It's really uerful if you are good at keeping leads.
For me, getting the lead is the easy part, but keeping it is hard. These two know how to
take an early lead, but usually aren't fast enough to keep it for long.

These two
are the fastest dudes in the game, although Bowser is VERY slightly faster. I recommend
them for EXPERTS ONLY! These two have the slowest acceleration in the game, and if
you think "driving" is bumping into stuff every 2 seconds then you will get no
where with these two. I use these two quite often. Even though they are slow in
acceleration, you can get the lead back quite easily. And, as long as you don't crash all
the time, you can keep any lead quite easily since no driver is faster than you.

These two
are for beginners just learning the game, but even some experts I know use these guys.
Great control, average acceleration, but VERY easy to bump around, so try not to bump
people too often. I use these two most often. I like them because i can do a jump turn.
Jump turns are useful to go faster because they sort of "shortcut" the turns.
Just make sure to avoid bowser or DK because those two can really run you off the road.
And, be careful on bridges because people will run you off into the water.
The
best tip I can give you to get better is to play, and play often, but if you are a true
Kart lover, this is no problem.
I
believe that the best way to turn corners is with a rapid tapping of the "B"
Button(This does not apply for Koopa Troopa or Toad. For those two drivers, the jump turn
is the best). It slows your speed just enough to make it around without wiping out, but
doesn't diminish you speed completely (Like letting go of the "B" Button would).
When
you acquire a banana peel or a green turtle shell (That you don't intend to shoot), drop
them in the middle of a straightaway. The computer players follow an almost exact path
around each of the courses, usually heading for the center of the road on straight-aways.
Learn their paths and you can spin `em almost every time you drop something.
Try to
keep something in between you at all times. If they shoot it, try to turn a corner or get
a pipe (or another player) between you and the shell.
Get a
banana peel or a green turtle shell, and when they shoot the red, drop it and try to stay
in front of it. Hope the shell hits it.
Try to
make a sound like a turtle shell would when it is fired, or try to scare the other person
and hope that they shoot they're shell (It's funny if they do shoot it).
In GP
mode, if you get gold in all three cups in the 50cc, and if you get the gold in all FOUR
cups in the 100cc cup, you will be awarded with the 150cc.
In GP
mode, and match race, if you press "A" and "Y" at the same time once
the 1 or 2 player symbol is above your driver, but before you choose your driver, the
picture of your driver will shrink and you will ride the whole cup or the race as an itty
bitty dude, unless you run into one of princess's or toad's mushrooms that they hurl at
you.
In time
trial mode, if you press start on 2 player's controller, your can choose a driver for the
computer and race that driver's "ghost" in the time trial races.
At The
beginning of every race, you can get a speed burst that is equal to a mushroom. The trick
is to start holding the "B" Button at just the right time. You need to press and
hold the "B" Button a fraction of a second after the first light comes on, or
you can start holding it down just as the "Round 1" or "Round 2" etc.
signs start to disappear. It takes some practice, but you'll get it eventually.
Hold L
and R while you select a one player game in Mario Kart GP mode. Then select your class,
driver, and track as usual. Begin your race, and you will be on the bottom half of the
screen instead of the top.
To
erase all the data and reset all the best times and GP data, go the the title screen and
press L, R, Y and A simultaneously. This will take you to the Reset Mode. If you want to
erase the times only, use the same code on each of the Time Trial runs.
To play
the special cup in Time Trial, enter the Time Trials and select your character. Then push
Left on the controller to move the cursor beside "Mushroom Cup." Then press L,
R, L, R, L, L, R, R and A. You should see "Special Cup" appear below "Star
Cup". Also, to get the special cup, just beat the 100CC.
