Tips to promote your web site, cheaply
|
- Put content on top. Some search engines use the first part of your web page as the description in their listing.
- Optimize your site for searching. Title descriptions, top of page text, and <META> tags
should all be written to pull in people doing keyword searches. For instance 'The Bug Hut' wont get as many hits as 'Volkswagon Beetle parts place.'
- Network in the Usenet News groups. Choose some news groups that best fit the subject of your site and participate.
Point out on topic content from your web site to draw traffic. Always put your URL in your signature file before you post to the news group.
- Register your site with every search engine you can find.
- Join a banner exchange program like The
GeoGuide Banner Exchange or Link Exchange.
- Exchange links with as many sites as you can. The best way to do this is to send E-mail to the webmaster of the site and ask to exchange links.
- Create a useful and eye pleasing site. If your site is a resource that offers benefits or regular entertainment, then you'll grab and maintain a devoted audience.
- Make up your own advertising cards that you can sneak into magazines and books in book stores.
- Bookmark your site Whenever you come across someone else's computer, and they are not around, bookmark your site.
- Set Home pages. If your in a cyber-cafe set all of the browsers default homepages to your site.
- Carry a large, red, rubber stamp of your URL with you at all times. Whenever
you see an empty spot on something, discreetly leave your mark.
