    • Cool things for your T100X

    Review at the "Opera"

    ranjit@best.com (website http://moonmilk.volcano.org ) writes: Your readers might be interested in the OPERA web browser (http://opera.nta.no/) - it has almost all the features of Netscape 3.0 or Internet Explorer 3.0 including frames, cookies, and animated gifs (but no java), and was specifically designed to fit on small machines. I put a copy on my 4MB t100x along with Microsoft Winsock, and it works surprisingly well. Slow, certainly, but not nearly as bad as Netscape 2.0 or IE 3.0, which are both completely unusable with 4MB. Opera also takes up a LOT less space on the puny 40M HD: something like 1.5M compared to 5-7M for IE or Netscape. I've also tried Opera on a nice modern desktop Pentium machine, and it still beats Netscape and IE for speed and size.

    New Deal/GEOS

    Robert Housley writes: "On another note, do you know anyone who has set up either GEOS or NEW DEAL 97 to work on the T100x? I'm having some problems getting it to run. Would be willing to write up an article about it for posting to the web page.". Please contact him if you are interested.

    Subject: Floppy cable for a generic floppy drive

    In the full support files section near the bottom there were three files (each with essentially the same information) describing the pinout of the proprietary Toshiba external floppy connector. In one of the files it basically describes how to build a cable to an external floppy. [see text attachment below].One would probably have to supply the power for the floppy drive externally as well, but that is trivial. I am assembling the materials now to experiment and will test the cable under various conditions when my t100x arrives. I'll keep you posted. --Nick <comanche@cyberstation.net>

    Let's not all rush and call Toshiba
