Trueness Part 2

Tai had to wait for 2 hours before he could see Sora. When he was finally allowed to, he quickly ran into the room Sora was in. Unfortunately, she was asleep (from all the medicine she had to take). Tai came to her side, and brushed his hands on her hair lightly.

“Oh, Sora,” Tai said with a weak voice “be strong, will ya, for me. Be as strong as you always were and you’ll make it. “ Then Tai went to sit on a chair near Sora’s bed. He put his head in his hands and started to cry. Although, the Doctor said Sora had a good chance to survive the whole ordeal, Tai was preparing for the worst. He knew that a good chance meant the same as a small chance (AKA anything can happen). He had this stance because of what happened to his sister 2 years ago:

His sister, Kari, had to be rushed in the ER after a serious car crash (a head on collision with another car). When the Doctor was giving the prognosis they said that Kari had a really good chance to live, a 100% chance nearly. Tai and his parents were happy with that news, and were then just waiting to take Kari home. Then after a couple of moments Tai had heard the sound of the flat liner, that damned high pitch noise! Tai knew then that she had died, and began weeping and weeping, his dear sister had died!

“Tai…chi?” Sora said very weakly.

Tai quickly got up from his chair and came to her side, “Sora, you finally woke up!” Tai said with a lighthearted voice trying to get Sora less melancholy.

“Oh, what have I got myself into?” Sora said.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, if I went earlier to get my head checked, I would most probably be fine. Oh, I must be putting you in so much pain, being here, and watching me…dying.” Sora said.

“Sora, don’t you dare say that! You are going to get through this! I know it and so do you!” Tai said, he then gave a little sigh and continued. “Anyways, the Doctor said that you have a really good chance to get through all of this. Just be strong, Sora, don’t give up.”

“I wish it was just that easy Tai, I ca…”

“…It is Sora, remember just don’t give up.”

“Alright, Taichi, if I only had that courage of yours.”

“You do somewhere Sora, you do, just re…” Tai was saying before a nurse came in.

“Excuse me, sir, but the Dr. Fiener needs to speak to the patient alone.” The nurse said (who was a bit rude).

“Just a second,” said Tai to the Nurse. “I’ll see ya in a few ok, Sora.” He then kissed the tip of her nose and left the room.

Tai went back to the waiting room and sat in the same chair he sat before. He was reminiscing all the good times he had with Sora. Then he was thinking of the night before, where he was far from this situation. He also wondered why Sora was so quick to give up. Her saying the word dying gave Tai the chills and popped questions in his head: how could she die so early, at 26? how could he spend a day without her furthermore his whole life!? He hated this day, he hated this hospital (yes, it was same one that Kari died in). He just wanted everything to be back to normal. He wished it were 6 years ago. Six years ago, his sister was alive, running like a locomotive, a true joy to look at. Six years ago, he and Sora first kissed under a tree while it was pouring rain, a beautiful moment. Oh, why couldn’t it be like that now, so magical and fun!

Tai had to wait about 45 minutes before a nurse said that he could go visit Sora. Tai jumped to his feet and went back to Sora’s room. When he came in, he was devastated he saw Sora sobbing.

“Sora!” Tai ran to her bed and hugged her. “What happened, what did they say to make you like this.”

“He…he sa..id that getting the team for the operation would take almost a week now! He (Dr.)said that he would get the 3 other doctors that are coming tomorrow and we would do the operation. B..ut the other 4 were the best ones and due to that the operation might not be close to a success! Oh Tai, I never thought I would die so early.”

“Sora, please! Don’t do this. You are going to live. I can feel it.”

“How…how do you know this Tai.” She said sobbing.

“Because I know that you have a future.”

“Future, what future! I am going to die, and that means no future for Sora!” Sora said getting hysterical.

“You mean, you can’t see our future.” He said emphasizing on the word our.

“Our? What do mean?”

“Well, Sora, our future of being together, you and me. I wanted and still want you to marry me. ”Tai said with shyness in his voice.

“Taichi?” She said softly. “ You feel this strongly for me?”

“Yes, and if you feel the same way, you will do everything possible to live. If you can’t promise yourself to survive this, promise me, promise our future. Please, Sora don’t give up easily.”

“Tai, I want to promise you that, but how? I’m not the surgeon.”

“Sora, just promise me.”

“Tai…”

“…Promise me Sor…”

“…Tai I…”

“…Promise me, please, I want to hear you say those words to me, please, Sora.”

“OK, Taichi.” Sora said sobbing, even more then earlier. “I promise. I promise that I will survive this all, and I promise that we both will have a future together. I promise, Taichi, I promise.” After all this was said, they hugged and gave each other a little kiss.

About an hour after this event, a nurse came in (not the rude one). “Hello. Hi, I’m sorry Mr. Kamiya, but it is necessary for Miss Takenouchi have tons of sleep before the operation tomorrow morning. Um, Stay for a little while still, but keep in your mind, that it is better for Miss Takenouchi to have rest.”

“Oh, ok, um I’ll stay not much longer.” said Tai.

“Ok, that is fine, I must apologize again.” The nurse then left.

“Well, Sora, I need to be heading out in a while. But, I’ll stay till you fall asleep.”

“Oh, that sounds fine Tai. Will you come in the morning before I go through everything.”

“Yes, Sora, I will.”

“Thank you, Tai. I love you.” Sora said drifting to sleep.

“I love you too, Sora.” Tai said very softly to the now sleeping Sora. After a couple of minutes, Tai had to leave, because that rude Nurse came in and ordered Tai to leave. Tai then left the room after softly kissing Sora on the forehead.

When Tai returned to his apartment, he went straight to his bed (it was like 2 am now.) He could not fall sleep, all he could do is sob. He felt that he was losing everyone, making him feel alone. He eventually fell asleep, but he only slept for 3 hours. He set his alarm clock to 7, and that was the time he woke up. He quickly got ready and rushed to the hospital. Sora’s operation would start at 10, so Tai wanted to be with Sora as long as he could. When, Tai was driving, he saw something gleaming in the seat next to him. When he was at a red light, he found out it was the engagement ring he was going to give Sora two nights ago. He wondered how it got out of the box it was in. He then had an idea, he was going to propose to Sora this morning, he wanted to give Sora more courage and more reasons to survive this operation, and he wanted Sora to know that he was serious yesterday. When Tai got to the hospital, he rushed up to the floor Sora’s room was in (5th floor). He asked a nurse if he could see Sora, and the nurse said that it was ok. Tai came to Sora’s room and found her awake.

“Taichi! You finally came!”

“Yes, I only wish I came earlier.”

“Taichi, I’m so afraid.”

“I know.” Tai said and then he came to Sora’s bed and hugged her. She started to cry at once on his shoulder.

“Taichi, I will try everything to just keep that promise. I love you too much to cause you pain.”

“That is all I wanted to hear, that you are going to keep that promise.”

“I will Taichi.” Sora said. Then Tai broke from the hug and started to get something from his pocket. “What is it Taichi?”

“I have something for you, Sora.”

“What Tai?”

“Well, you’ll see in a second.”

“OK, whatever it is, it’s really stuck in your pocket!” Sora said with a chuckle.

“Ah, here it is.” Tai said, then he fell to his knees. Sora then knew what was going on.

“Taichi…”

“…Shhh…” He said putting his index finger over Sora’s mouth gently. “Sora Takenouchi, will you do me the greatest honor in marrying me?”

“Taichi….” Sora said crying tears of joy. “Oh, Taichi, of course, I love you!” Tai slipped the ring on her finger then they hugged and gave each other lots of little choppy kisses (even though Sora’s head felt bad…).

After a while of happiness, the Doctor whom Tai spoke with the day before, came into the room. “ Miss Takenouchi, we are ready to start the operation. We need to start ASAP. Mr. Kamiya, mind going to the waiting room?”

“Oh yeah, I’ll go.” Then Tai looked back at Sora before leaving the room. “Remember the promise, Sora? For us.”

Tai went back to the waiting room, where he spent much of his day yesterday. Tai was very worried at that moment (who wouldn’t be), he hoped that Sora had the strength to get though this all.

“Tai!” A familiar voice shouted. Tai looked up and saw that the voice was from Mrs. Takenouchi, Sora’s mother, who was standing with her husband not three feet away from Tai. “Tai, have you heard anything about Sora, how is she? We came as fast as we could from our vacation. Good time to take a vacation, huh?”

“Well, Mrs. And Mr. Takenouchi, the news isn’t that great.”

“What? The Doctor called us on our cellphone yesterday and said the chances are most favorable.”

“Well, the Doc. only got 3 out of the 7 professionals they needed for the operation, and chances are not so good for her survival.”

“What, why didn’t he call us back and tell us this!” said Mr. Takenouchi.

“Because, the phone was dead on the train, and you left the recharger at home!” said Mrs. Takenouchi with a bit of hysteria.

“Well, I believe that Sora will make through all of this, I have a feeling.” said Tai.

“I hope.” Mrs. Takenouchi said with tears in her eyes. Tai didn’t want to say anything about the engagement to Sora’s parents, because he felt it was a weird time to tell them that.

“Are your parents here, Tai?” Mr. Takenouchi said.

“Uh, no they are not. They’re in Northern Japan doing business, I wish they were here though, I just don’t want them to be stressed because of my worrying.”

“I have to thank you Tai, for being here for Sora while we weren’t. If Sora survives this surgery, all of it will be all your doing that gave Sora the courage to fight all these horrible …things.” Mrs. Takenouchi said at the verge of being hysterical.

“Sora will survive.” Tai said firmly.

After many hours of waiting, the operation was finally complete. The surgery seemed to have gone well (they completely got the tumor out), however, the effects afterwards were the most important, because at that moment Sora’s condition was bad, and she could die in any second. Sora’s parents and Tai were allowed to visit her in her room, but of course Sora was unconscious with half of her head in bandages. Sora’s parents went up to Sora, took her hand and they started to talk to her while Tai was looking at them from the other side of the room. “Sora, Deary. Please open your eyes! Please, Sora. We love you too much to let you go.” Mrs. Takenouchi said. She then looked down at Sora’s hand and saw a ring on her daughter’s finger. She looked back at Tai and smiled. Then a second later Mr. Takenouchi smiled. It took a while for Tai to figure out why they were smiling.

Yet, again, a nurse came in and said that Sora’s parents and Tai should leave because the Doctor needed to do some things, and check if Sora wasn’t comatose and other stuff like that. The parents left first, and were crying. Tai looked at Sora connected to many tubes and began to cry he hoped that Sora was keeping her promise and was fighting to survive! But, before Tai left the room he heard a noise, a noise that he heard 2 years ago, that damned high pitched sound!

“EKG! STAT!” Some nurses shouted and now many medical people were rushing past Tai into Sora’s room.

“Excuse me sir, you must leave the room!” Some nurse said. Tai left the room and he went to sit down in the waiting room. He was almost catatonic. He felt as if he wanted to kill himself! He knew that the pain was too much for Sora, and she gave up, she let her heart give up. That damned high pitch noise! Tai was now the one who was hysterical. He now lost another important person to him. He was beginning to feel that he was cursed and that he could never hold happiness!

After several minutes of stress for Tai and the parent’s, a doctor came up to them with a somber face.

“I am sorry.” He started to say. Mrs. Takenouchi now was falling to her knees, but Mr. Takenouchi caught her before she fell. The doctor continued. “Sora, is in a very deep coma, and there are low chances for any survival, I am very sorry that you all must go through this.” No one said a thing, and the doctor nodded his head firmly with sadness and left the devastated crowd.

“My little girl…”Mr. Takenouchi said. Everyone went back to sitting and now instead of holding hope they were sobbing their hearts out.

“I can’t stand this anymore! I want to go home.” Mrs. Takenouchi shouted. “ I want to cry at home. Please, let’s go home.”

“Alright, Dear. Tai, do you need a ride?” Mr. Takenouchi said.

“No, no. I have my car here. I want to stay. Maybe there is going to be a miracle.” Tai said with doubt in his voice. Sora’s parents left the hospital depressed like no one, and Tai just sat in the waiting room wishing it were not just a hour ago. Then a doctor or a nurse came out and said to Tai,

“Sora’s condition is stabilized, but the condition is still comatose, and there is still low chance. If you want to, I’m sorry…”said the person almost teary”…if you want to say your farewell, you may now.” Then the person left.

Tai, after a while mustered enough courage to enter Sora’s room. He opened the door and saw Sora just lying there; she could be dead now, Tai wondered. He looked at the heart monitor it was beating normally but Sora just looked dead. Tai came to her bedside took her hand and began talking softly, “Sora-chan, can you hear me? I hope you can. I love you Sora. Please come back to this world, please I need you. My future needs you.” Tai said stroking Sora’s hand. “Sora, please don’t leave me alone in this world.” He then began sobbing once more, “Sora-chan, do you hear me. Sora, Sora, Sora…Sora?” Tai put his head down, and was just silent for a long time then started to sob again. He began to control his sobbing, and started talking again. “Sora, if there is anything you need to know from me, it is that I will always love you! Even if you die tonight, which you can not let happen, I will love you wherever you are.” Tai became quiet again; he was still holding Sora’s hand. Then at a random moment Tai felt something, he felt Sora’s hand move gently. Tai was so excited, he called for a doctor, and with that done the Doctor asked Tai to leave the room and a group of medical specialist started to do some procedures and other stuff on Sora.

Tai went back to the waiting room. For the first time in a long time he held hope. He was so glad that Sora was fighting hard. He was so glad that Sora was fighting for their love. He now felt that Sora was going to get through this, he knew it!

After about 2 hours, a doctor approached Tai. “Mr. Kamiya?”

“Yes?” said Tai.

“Sora’s condition has gotten better. It seems that she will survive the tumor removal.”

“Oh, thank you!”

“If she’s a fast healer, she might even be able to go home in about a week. She’s out of her coma, but we prefer that there wouldn’t be any visitors till the morning. So you should go home and catch some sleep, because you look quite weary, come back around in the morning, when we will allow visitors.”

“Yeah, ok. I’ll go, I should also call Mr. and Mrs. Takenouchi.”

“All right.” Said the Doctor, and then he walked back into Sora’s room for observations.

Tai did what he said he went home, called Sora’s parents and went to sleep. Tai woke at the same time as the day before, at seven, and rushed to the hospital. Sora’s parents were just coming out of Sora’s room when Tai entered. “Thank Goodness!” said Mrs. Takenouchi as she was going out.

“Taichi…”said Sora very weakly.

“Hey, Sora! I knew you wouldn’t break the promise.”

“Never Taichi, never would I break a promise, especially not one I made with you.”

“I never doubted it for a second.” Tai said lying.

“Taichi, but I have to tell you this. I almost gave up, the pain was too much, but then you came in, I heard your words Taichi and that made me even stronger. Thank you Taichi, I love you so much.”

“Now, we get to start our future Sora.”

“Yes, it will be such a beautiful future.”

“Beautiful indeed.” said Tai and with that he kissed Sora on the cheek.

Their future was indeed beautiful. Tai and Sora got married 5 months later (in the same place where they first kissed). They both were successful. Sora quit her stressful job at the Newspaper press, and made the flower-shop a very busy little place (it became the #1 flower-shop in Japan!). (BTW Sora’s head didn’t bother her anymore). Tai continued to work at the soccer clinic, and coached the Japanese Olympic Soccer Team four times (each time winning gold)! Tai and Sora had 3 lovely children: 2 boys and a girl (they named her Kari as a tribute to Tai’s sister). Other then that, Tai and Sora lived a very very very very very very happy life. –The End
